Nato apologises for Afghan civilian deaths in Logar

The commander of international forces in Afghanistan has apologised for civilian deaths in an air strike in the southern province of Logar.

It is the first time that Nato has admitted civilians died in Wednesday's air strike, which had targeted Taliban commanders.

Afghan officials said 18 civilians had died in the incident.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has condemned the air strike, calling it "unjustifiable".

Gen John Allen flew to Logar on Friday to offer condolences to villagers and local leaders.

He told local people that they "have my apology and we will do the right thing by the families," according to the Associated Press.

They were not civilians and nobody knows the real story about what actually happened on ground. As far as the Pakistani version goes, well, you can't really trust an Army which hasn't even conducted an equiry into OBL raid. Heck, they didn't tell their people the truth about even Kargil until after many years. They kept parotting the 'Mujahideen' line unless it became factually inevitable to concede their folly.

Can't really rely on such an Army's word.

Krait sahib - not only that but what about the 1000s they have "accidentally" killed elsewhere - it beggars belief that they have never apologized before. Perhaps an apology is a show of taking responsibility. To be honest their apology will just go over the victims families heads....... R.I.P. to ALL victims of these people.

Do you think it might be possible that they wanted to irk Pakistani establishment by apologizing for this incident but not for Salala one.....Afterall degraded relations with Pakistan will pave way for them to take action in future without going through diplomatic channels....

EXACTLY - the game was never about afghanistan but pakistan (and even when it is about afghanistan it is about pakistan). so anglo-americans will now apologize to every afghan and donkey just to make a point to pakistan, to further insult pakistan and disaffect pakistan.
