Dhaka: The National Revolution and Solidarity Day is being observed on Friday, marking the civil-military ‘uprising’ in 1975.
On this day in 1975, amid political turmoil soldiers and civilians jointly freed then chief of army staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity in Dhaka cantonment, paving the way for Zia to come to power.
BNP and its associate bodies have chalked out a 10-day programme to observe the day in a befitting manner.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will visit the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman at the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar today to offer prayers and lay wreaths.
As part of the programmes, the party will hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia will address the rally as the chief guest.
Other political parties and social organisations will observe the day from different historical perspectives.
