If an internal poll conducted by the students of Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi University is to be believed, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's popularity is soaring through the roof in the Capital.

He is scheduled to speak at SRCC's fifth Business Conclave on Wednesday. But it's not just Modi reaching out to the youth outside Gujarat in a run up to Parliamentary elections next year. It's also the youngsters choosing to hear him out at SRCC. A majority of students in one of the most sought-after colleges in Delhi voted for Modi to be the speaker at the conclave this year with Ratan Tata coming a close second.

Sources say at least five Cabinet ministers and even AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi were nominated in the poll. However, Modi pipped them all to be a clear favourite of the students.

"We had an internal poll to make a list of all the political and business leaders we would like to hear at the conclave this year. Students from both courses -BCom (honours) and BA (honours) Economics -in the college participated and Modi got the highest number of votes," said one of the organisers of the conclave who refused to share the number of votes polled for him.

"It was an internal matter. Ratan Tata got the second highest votes though he expressed his regret for not being able to make it to the college as he was supposed to be travelling," he said.

Modi is going to speak at the 'Shri Ram Memorial Oration' at the Business Conclave 2013. Sources say he had made it clear that he would speak only on issues of business and social development.

"He is going to speak about successful business models that helped transform Gujarat. The topic of his discourse is 'Emerging Business Models in the Global Scenario'. "This is the first time we have introduced this session. We've mostly had business leaders to speak at the conclave in last four editions," the organiser said.

Modi's speech will be shown live on his website -www.narendramodi.com. Though the principal refused to confirm if a poll was carried out to select Modi as a popular choice for the conclave, he said that the BJP poster-boy emerged as quite a favourite of the students.

"The students' union prepared a list of 10-15 eminent people and I wrote to all of them inviting them to speak at the conclave.
Gujarat CM was the first to say yes. He replied in just three days. We have a democratic way of selecting the speakers," principal P. C. Jain said.

Modi's programme in SRCC is believed to have been facilitated by BJP leader and SRCC alumnus Arun Jaitley. The three-day conclave will conclude on Wednesday.

Several BJP top brass leaders in the city are a product of the well-known SRCC, University of Delhi including Vijender Gupta, Vijay Goel, Jagdish Mukhi and Vijay Jolly.

As they say... 'Kutte bhonke hazaar, hati chale bazaar'. Potshots by desperate frustrated lot will not effect the movement of Modi. They have been crying wolf for the past decade... & will continue to do so. It's bit embarrassing actually...

Narendra Modi hits a chord with Delhi students; gets a standing ovation

REACHING OUT: Narendra Modi at Shri Ram College of Commerce on February 6, 2013
NEW DELHI: Calling India's youth "mouse-charmers", Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed students of a prestigious Delhi college, pitching himself as an icon for urban youth while seeking to cement his status as BJP's presumptive candidate for prime ministership.

The Gujarat chief minister addressed a packed enclosure of students of New Delhi's Shri Ram College of Commerce, but he could well have been reaching out to a national audience given the widespread media interest in the event.

And his message was clear: India can do big things, the young of this country can change its future and, although this was never said directly, Modi can help deliver that national change.

"Fifty per cent of the country's GDP was under one roof," Modi told his audience, referring to last month's Vibrant Gujarat summit, which saw prominent members of India Inc in attendance.

He said "skill, scale and speed" were the need of the hour if India had to compete with China and find a place in the 21st century. "Governments have no business to do business," he said.

Dressed in his trademark half-sleeved kurta and a black shawl draped around his neck, Modi approached the microphone to begin his talk with a half-filled glass of water. That set off a round of murmurs in the audience, but it quickly became clear why the man many say will be a prime ministerial candidate was holding up a glass.

"Some see this as half-filled and others half-empty. But I have a third way of looking at it: the glass is half-filled with water and half with air." Modi's point being, he's an optimist in a country, as he said, full of pessimism.

"People consider it a curse being born in India," Modi said, "The young want to leave as soon as they have completed their studies," he said.

But he sees it differently, Modi told students. "With the same law, the same Constitution, same rules and regulations, same officers, same people, same files, we can move forward. We can do a lot. I am confident that we can change things."

More in the same vein followed: "Our youth has changed the image of India globally. Till 15 years ago, we were considered a land of black magic and snake charmers. We have become mouse-charmers, the youth of this country can rule the world by their fingers with a mouse," he said, the reference, obviously, to the computer mouse. P2 and G2, said Modi, were his mantras. P2 meaning pro-people, and G2, good governance.

His speech, which went beyond the scheduled 30 minutes, also contained the by-now-standard references to what he calls Gujarat's achievements. But Modi is too aware of the needs of public speaking to dull an audience with statistics.

So, there were jokes. Talking of Gujarat as a tourist destination, he said, Gujaratis are good tourists. Even in five-star hotels, they would open their tiffin boxes and have their theplas.

Members of the 1,000-plus audience cheered loudly, in striking contrast to scenes outside, where a crowd of students affiliated to the Left parties and the Congress protested. The approbation inside and the protest outside - both being led by young students - was typical of the response Modi generates. At the college auditorium, Modi got a standing ovation, outside the venue, police lathicharged protesters and prohibitory orders were imposed.

You have nobody who can be compared with Modi.
GDP of pakistan is double of gujrat  just ...

Looking at the protest picture, why is Campus Front of India, which is nothing but the student union of Popular Front of India, a front of SIMI being even allowed to function ? Shocking to say the least !

And again, why is a student union that is based on religion allowed ? What message is the "secular" Delhi university sending out by allowing such divisive groups to function in temples of education ?
