The NAB finally admitted officially on Tuesday that the bureaus Chairman Fasih Bukhari and Director General HR Kausar Malik held a meeting with Kamran Faisal on the night of Jan 16 to discuss the RPPs case.
Meanwhile, confirming the highly crucial mobile messages, reported by The News and Jang on Tuesday, an assistant director told the Islamabad police that Kamran was under coercion from his top bosses to change his position in the RPPs case in favour of the most influential accused - Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
According to the NAB sources, the assistant director, who exchanged crucial mobile messages with the deceased on the night of Jan 16, not only confirmed all such messages, but also told the Islamabad police that Kamran was summoned by Kausar Malik from his Rawalpindi office. Kamran initially met Kausar Malik at the Islamabad headquarters and was later taken by Malik to the chairmans office.
It was the same night when Kamran Faisal sent an SMS to a colleague, conveying, DG HR WANT AFFIDAVIT IN BACK DATE REGARDING CHANGE FROM CASE; KIA KAROON.
The colleague had advised him not to do this (kabi mat dena apnay hath khud na katwana). The colleague, who gave his verbal account to the Islamabad police on Monday, confirmed that there was pressure on Kamran to change the report.
Chairman NAB Fasih Bukhari and Director General HR and Financial Crime Wing Kausar Malik are alleged to have held an insulting meeting with Kamran Faisal on the night of Jan 16 for almost two hours.
Bukhari and Malik were never available for their comments but the NAB spokesman Zafar Iqbal termed the report totally untrue.
The spokesman was asked if he could confirm whether Kamran Faisal had been brought to the chairmans office by Kausar Malik where the officer was alleged to have been pressurized to change his report in favour of prime minister.
Talking to The News senior reporter Ahmad Noorani on Tuesday, the NAB spokesman confirmed the Jan 16 meeting between Fasih, Kausar and Kamran.
Zafar Iqbal offered no comments on the mobile messages exchanged between Kamran and his colleague which clearly showed the kind of pressures the deceased was facing but still denied that any pressure was exerted on Kamran.
He admitted that Kamran Faisal was summoned for a separate meeting with Fasih and Kausar on the night of January 16. He also confirmed that Kamran was not part of the NAB Executive Board meeting held at 1930 hrs on Jan 16 to discuss the Rental Powers Case (RPP) hearing in the Supreme Court on Jan 17.
When the spokesman was asked as per an official NAB press release if Kamran was separated from the RPP case on January 7, then why did the chairman and DG HR summon him for a separate meeting and that too late in the night, Zafar replied that the chairman wanted to know the reasons on the basis of which Kamran had detached himself from the RPP case investigations.
In its press release, issued on January 20, the NAB contended that Kamran was merely assisting the main investigator Asghar Khan in the case probe but still he was summoned to have a separate meeting with the chairman and director general HR.
When asked about the truth of Kamrans text messages to one of his colleagues conveying that Director General HR Kausar Iqbal Malik was pressuring him to write a back-dated affidavit, the spokesman replied that he will make no comments on this as he was unaware of such happenings.
However, still the spokesman was sure that Kamran was under pressure from his top bosses. Zafar said things in this regard will become clear after the completion of police investigations.
While the NAB bosses are looking at the Islamabad police for the outcome of this case, the heirs of the deceased as well as the young officers of NAB have no trust in the government, the administration, the police and even the judicial commission set up by the regime to probe the matter.
