Myanmar to construct railroad to link deep-sea port with China - People's Daily OnlineOctober 17, 2010

Myanmar has planned to construct a railroad that will link a deep-sea port, Kyaukphyu, in western Rakhine state with Kunming, southwest of China, the local Weekly Eleven News reported Saturday.

The Kyaukphyu-Kunming railroad, which is part of the Kyaukphyu- Ruili platform project and national railroad network, is targeted to be finished in 2015.

The railroad will pass through Rakhine State, Magway Region, Mandalay Region and Shan State in Myanmar, the report said.

The railroad project is divided into such sections as Kyaukphyu- Eann-Minbu, Minbu-Magway-Mandalay-Lashio-Muse and Muse-Jiegao trans-border railroad.

After the project is implemented, Myanmar's Shan State and China's Yunnan province can be connected directly and the railroad will mainly facilitate the goods flow from China, the report said, adding that Magway and Mandalay regions will then become the main business towns.

Meanwhile, China has also planned to invest in a special industrial zone to be established in Kyaukphyu.

:blah::blah::blah:

Exactly how does building a railroad encircles India.?

It's Bangladesh who loses more from China-Myanmar rail link. Earlier Bangladeshi members were bragging about their deep sea port and now you with your 2 liner nonsense.

China-Myanmar rail link is built mainly as an alternate import route for China, in case the Malacca Straits and nearby sea route is blocked by some hostile nation.

It is part of China's startegy to open up as many alternate routes for import and export for China's enormous global trade since the West and US have a habbit of imposing sanctions and blockades on other nations.

Exactly. Both the Myanmar-link and the Gwadar port are designed so that China can access the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf.

Therefore if the Malacca straits are blocked, we can still get oil supplies from the Persian Gulf via the port at Gwadar, and still continue to ship our products to our customers overseas.

Huh, How BD will loose that? You think 100 Mln dollar port could compete with 10 bln dollar port?
BD deep sea port will hanlde mother vessel and Myanmar port still will work as complementary to BD port. Mother vessels have to anchor in BD and the goods destined to Myanmar port will be carried from BD with feeder vessel. Infact Singapore is our competitor and we are looking for how much business we could snatch from that port.:coffee:
