Dhaka, Sep 14 (bdnews24.com)—China has confirmed Myanmar's assent on plans to connect its Kunming with Chittagong by road, via Myanmar.

Forest and environment state minister Hasan Mahmud said on Monday that Myanmar had not shown any interest on a similar Bangladeshi proposal, but agreed when China arrived at the scene.

Mahmud was talking to reporters after meeting with the Chinese ambassador in Dhaka, Zhang Xianyi, at his office.

"China wants collaboration with Bangladesh to tackle effects of climate change. Therefore, it has invited a Bangladesh delegation to China where the plausible initiatives will be discussed," Mahmud said.

Earlier, during a four-day official visit in March, prime minister Sheikh Hasina discussed the issue with the China government.

Yangon agrees on tri-nation highway

China confirmed Bangladesh that the Myanmarese government has agreed in principle on the construction of the proposed tri-nation highway connecting Chittagong-Myanmar-Kunming (China).

Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Zhang Xianyi on Tuesday informed this to Hasan Mahmud, state minister for Forests and Environment in a meeting at the secretariat.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, the minister said Bangladesh earlier requested China to talk to the Myanmar government about the highway.

Hasan also told the newsmen that construction of deep seaport in Chittagong region was another agenda of the meeting.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, during her visit to Beijing in March this year, had sought Chinese assistance in the construction of the deep seaport.

“Chinese government is examining the proposal”, said Hasan.

now thats what I'm talkin 'bout. I've always dreamt of traveling to china by roads'n stuffs. just like the old days when there was the silk route.

.
I think this road and deep sea port will come to live at the same moment

.
thats the sad part because they wouldn't be built before 7-8 years.
3 years for feasibility(myanmar doesn't hav intellectuals so may be it'll be quicker)
5 years for construction through the mountains.

Such complex projects do take time....Actually 7-8 years time frame is going to be best case, b/w how many miles/km of road are we talking about here????....As far as i know the terrain is going be a challenge however i am happy that Asia is rising and realizing the fact which west realized decades ago.... Good luck with the project.....

I've heard theres 90kms of undulating terrain after the border from bd, after that its all starightforward
(100km +-). The road will be quicker not sure 'bout the railway tracks.

Do you think this route will decrease the import-amount, demand and use of India products in BD?
And BD will be able to set up industries where raw materials will be available quickly from China?

BTW, is it possible to go China or India by own car with passport, visa and BD's driving license?

Depends what industry you talking about. For raw material India is a good source. For capital machineries its China.

Awesome news..simply awesome.....I just hope the military to brass dont get a bit too much worried with the development.

The roads will increase connectivity and thereby transport and trade. The roads will also pave the path for a higher level of inter-country relationship and trade in the region of South Asia. This region is developing pretty fast.....Get onboard before its too late:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Great news. The Chinese probably leaned on the Burmese Generals. Now let China manage the construction work.
