Turkey made their choice when they allied with Germany. Only they are to be blamed for this.

For the record, Britain & France did not help Turkey against Russia for any love of the Sultan. Russian victory over Turkey would have made Russia the most powerful nation in Europe which the Britain & France, being the dominant powers could not tolerate.

This would also mean that Russian warships would have had free access to the Mediterranean through the Dardanelles and could threaten Cyprus, Malta & the French North Africa. Thus potentially endanger everything the British and the French had in the Middle East & North Africa.

British & French military help to the Ottomans was in effect an extension of the so-called “Great Game”. A political, diplomatic & military confrontation between the British & Russian empires over influence on Afghanistan, Central & Southern Asia during most of the 19th Century. Hence, military assistance to the Ottomans in the Crimean War was purely an action by the colonial powers to safeguard their interest.

The Arabs choose the Soviet Union in the Cold War. Israel did not.
Jordan realized their mistake after beeing betrayed by Nasser, and has not fought Israel since then.
Egypt realized that the Soviets were not really supporting Arabs either and switched towards USA after the October War.
Most resolutions regarding Israel are written by Arabs, only interested in the Arab point of view, so it is vetoed. BTW: many other resolutions are voted down for the same reason.

I don’t disagree with that the main motivation for Great Britain and France was to stop Russia. Unlike Turkey, which was an expansionist Empire, the treatys after WWI saw Britain as a Guardian for the establishment of many separate Arab Nations.
