My Dear Fellow Hindus, Why Have You Lost Your True Religion?

.
Which world do you live in ? Hindus were divided into caste, reservation was used to further divide hindus, politicians used it further as well. Instead of promoting Varna system. You said education will remove caste system, why has it not gone after the last 70 years ? like it or not, this is exactly what is happening anyone denying it is living in a lala land. To say Hindus did not unite to vote, is denying reality..

In a world where opinions are not sold as facts. You are free to have your opinions, however stupid they may be. I have no objections to that. But I gave you numbers which clearly throw your Hindus getting united to elect Modi theory to the junkyard. The bottom line is that voting numbers don't back up your opinion.

Give it 10 to 15 years - most things will be clearer. For e.g. assam, Bihar, UP and West Bengal is in a mess because of vote bank politics...and secularism there will only worsen the situation.

I am fully aware of the situations and the "vote bank" policies of the Congress party, especially in Assam. However "a bit of religious extremism" as you put it, is not a solution to that problem-- it has never been.

The idea here is extremism - in this case Hindutva driven as you describe...as I said...All of them did it at one point of time...The Japanese. .The west..The Chinese...The Russians. .The muslims still are...The israelis..let's see where it leads in 10 to 15 years.

Theory , lol ...have you been blind for so long or do you simply choose to ignore it ? Hindu unity has been a major component of LS 2014 election, the sooner you accept that the better.

Respecting my own religion and asking others to respect it is not religious extremism. Go look what happened in W.B, you push a religion/society enough it will respond

Once again strong opinions are not facts. You have an opinion and I don't agree with it. You can not force me to accept it unless you are able to prove it. I gave you voting numbers that BJP got 31% of the total vote share in a country with 85% population. How does that prove Hindu unity? Assuming an even vote share among religious groups and assuming that all of BJP's vote to be from the Hindus, less than 40% of the Hindus voted for BJP. Refute the numbers if you can or leave it as an opinion, which you are perfectly entitled to have.

And what exactly are you going to achieve with this so called "extremism"? What is the operational procedure. Please elaborate. I am not entirely sure I get what you mean by it.

look around you, look in the forum, in FB, on twitter, talk to people around you , you will find out it is a fact, not an opinion. But you can't, you are in US. I can't force you to accept facts, its your choice weather to believe what is real or not. BJP did not fight in several states and in several others they had allies, so its NDA which should be taken into account and not BJP. For example in TN. AIADMK is also very pro culture and has almost similar ideologies, if you have doubt just research on what Jayalalitha did with the cricket academy which banned lungi's. Or look at what Naveen patnaik is doing in Orissa, these are places which BJP fought, but these are CMs which does not discriminate against Hindus. I said Hindu unity was an aspect of 2014 elections, and that is true. You can choose to either believe it, or ignore it entirely...

There is nothing extremist in asking others to respect your religion. If you find that extremist then you should introspect.

Look around facebook, twitter?

I gave you hard facts, official numbers. Pardon me, but do you realize how stupid you sound when you ask me to check facebook and twitter as a rebuttal?

Let me ask you again.

Do you refute that less than 40% Hindus voted for BJP? If yes, how?

If No, then how do you backup your theory with those numbers in hand? Please don't tell me to check facebook and twitter.

OK now let's come to NDA since you brought it up, NDA won 39% of the total voteshare. It still does not backup your opinion. Just FYI Congress has won many elections in the past with similar or more voteshare. It is not as simplistic as you think or make it sound like.

Yes, talk to people around you Indians, ask their opnions. Sitting in US and lecturing me without knowing ground realities is injurious to your mental health

Ignorance is bliss, i edited my earlier post, read it. Know the ground realities before talking nonsense.

Ignorance is bliss, considering you entirely bypassed my earlier post

Oh dear, I knew it would come down to this.

Anyway, have a good day.

A wave of intolerance has swept through the land, threatening to submerge free-thinkers and cultural and religious minorities. A fever of hate has gripped the country.

For lovers of the land, for lovers of all humanity, this is painful to behold, immensely painful. And, when the refrains of hate are taken up not just by drunken goons in the pay of low-level politicians keen to exploit any difference, but by people from the educated and well-placed Hindu middle-class -- the community I hail from -- the pain I feel is monumental. I weep at their ignorance, I weep at their lack of critical thinking, their mindless parroting of others' sophistry, and above all, I weep at the hate that stands revealed in their hearts.

"My community members, educated and privileged as you are, why do some of you fall prey to the cheapest of sophistry?"

Members of my community, let me try to disabuse you of your prejudices. You should know that Muslims are human beings like you and me, wishing to live in harmony and to get on with their lives. They are not to be feared. As is true for Christians. And -- it is important this be said since I know that some of you harbour prejudices towards others of your own religion as well -- as is true for other Hindus lower down on the social structure than you.

You should know that the West is not poisoning our values, not corrupting our sons and daughters. You should know that our land has absorbed thousands of "conquests" before, by people, by ideas, by faiths, and has emerged only stronger. That this land has a particular genius for absorbing people, ideas, and faiths and making them its own. And that the root of this genius lies not in the external, practiced aspects of Hinduism, which are after all only aspects of culture, but in the underlying philosophy of non-duality emerging from the Vedas.

Aham brahmasmi.I am theBrahman, the one unity that underlies all creation, indeed, of which all creation is just a manifestation, justleela, play. In this philosophy, there is no separate you and I, there is no duality. All is one. There is no Hindu, no Muslim, no Christian. No Brahmin, no Shudra. No Outsider, no Insider. No Them, no Us. It is this philosophy of rejecting differences, of seeing oneself in the other, that undergirds the lives of those that live in this land and represents the genius of India.

My community members, educated and privileged as you are, why do some of you fall prey to the cheapest of sophistry? "They fly Pakistan flags in theirbastisand at cricket matches!" How many Pakistani flags have you actually seen? One, two, most likely none at all? What makes you leap to the conclusion that the entire Muslim community must be waving Pakistani flags? Can't you see that this is just a red herring put out by those trying to divide society for their own nefarious purposes, tempting you into intellectual fallacies with false symbols (the flag) of that "refuge of the scoundrel" (patriotism)?

"Realise that the apparently different Other is just yourself, justBrahman. You have the choice to love or to hate. Choose to love. Love is the highest ideal."

Why do some of you fall prey to easy arguments of majoritarianism? Don't you realise that the highest mark of being civilised is the love and care and respect you show to those who are considerably weaker than you? Don't you realise that the Hindu community that you choose to identify with to make yourself feel good can just as easily divide itself along some other lines, for instance into the socio-economically privileged and the less privileged, and you could then be in the new minority? Will you be parroting these arguments of majoritarianism then? Or, consider the large numbers of your sons and daughters who have emigrated to the West, and consider particularly, your grandchildren, who were born there. What if the West turned on them, these Hindu minorities? What if the granddaughter you adore so much in Birmingham or Atlanta or Boise suffered the same fate at the hands of rampaging Christian mobs that hundreds of equally adorable girls suffered at the hands of rampaging Hindu mobs in Godhra and elsewhere? Would you be singing paeans to majoritarianism then?

My community members. You are blessed with culture and intelligence. You can do better than display such unthinking hate. Realise that hate is a by-product of the fear of the Other, a fear which itself is a product of our primitive reptilian brains, programmed only to classify instantaneously, even if inaccurately, into friend or foe. Bring your intellect to moderate the sense of threat you feel whenever you see someone different. Realise that the apparently different Other is just yourself, justBrahman. You have the choice to love or to hate. Choose to love. Love is the highest ideal.

Actually, India is the same. The fact is that the right wing lunatics get a fillip whenever BJP comes to power and they become more verbose. It probably embarrasses the upper crust of BJP leaders but the right wing loonies are one of their core constituents - so there is little wriggle room.

Same thing happened under the Congress - restriction on freedom of speech when Rushdie wasn't allowed to speak at a festival.

India is for everyone and someone needs to clamp on the right wing.
