Muslims Only Apartments in India

.
This is not a anti-secular move in anyway, as long
Islam does not preach exclusivity. Muslims all over the world live happily with other communities. We don't forbid others to enter our house or eat with us. Hindus practicing exclusivity and segregation cannot comprehend these things.
Neither Islam nor Hinduism doesn't preach nor oppose exclusivity. Its simply the people of the same way of life living together. Try to comprehend that.

.
NOIDA: Apartments are usually targeted at particular income groups. But a developer in Greater Noida has narrowed down his focus group to a particular community.

The builder, Adarsh Group, is promoting the apartments - Gulistaan Golf View Heights - as"dream homes for elite Muslim brotherhood".The apartments - 368 in all, priced at between Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,750 per sq feet - are coming up on 3.5 acres in Sports City, Greater Noida. It will have a mosque, a madrassa, and will face Qibla - the direction a Muslim faces when offering prayers. Construction is likely to begin by the end of this month.

While this may be a sound business proposition, questions are being raised on whether this is an attempt at creating high-end ghettoes. But equally, some see this as a practical solution in a country where it is still often difficult for Muslims to rent or buy houses.

"These are going to be dream houses for Muslims in Sports City," said Saleem Zafar, owner and CEO of Adarsh Group. "We have been able to make it a reality after a long struggle. A lot of our emotions are invested in this because we wish to give the Muslims of India an opportunity to experience a best-in-class living experience. They should move out from their colonies and shift into plush apartments like this."

Despite the high sales pitch, not all Muslims find the idea exciting. "Being a Muslim myself, I don't want to live in an all-Muslim apartment complex," said Professor Shahid Jamal, head of the communications department at Shiv Nadar University. "Why should anyone prefer to live within a community of the same religion? Isn't that what ghettoes are all about?" he added.

Renowned political scientist Imtiaz Ahmed said the idea of India is rooted in inclusion and integration of all communities. "But such an apartment complex, dedicated exclusively to a particular community, makes them more vulnerable in case of violence and disturbance. Besides, it goes against the constitutional ethos of the country," he added.

But, Aftab Alam, a TV professional living in NCR for the past 14 years, feels there is logic behind this. "For Muslim families, listening to the azaan in the morning and evening is very significant. That's why most families try and live close to mosques. Also, celebrating festivals becomes difficult in mixed-community areas. Apart from this, it is not easy for a Muslim family to find a house in certain areas of Delhi as many landlords still have reservations about renting houses to Muslims, which forces them to rent houses in only Muslim-friendly areas of NCR."

"We are very clear that by building Muslim-only apartments, our intention is to provide the Muslims of NCR a high-quality living experience, which is friendly to their culture. People of different communities have different lifestyles and an apartment with a mosque and madrassa would definitely be a great experience for the Muslim families who can afford to buy these flats. This is just a step towards the development of the community," Zafar added.

Muslims-only apartments coming up in Greater Noida - The Times of India

So there you are. Like the Jews in ghettos in Europe and the Indian Reservations in N America, plans for the Indian Muslims is afoot.

There are already so many apartments like that in Bangalore.. Though nobody restricts people of other religion from staying there. But overall not many ppl other than muslims stay in those apartments.

Its pretty normal here at least.

That's what happens when secular hating Indians don't allow Muslims to live in their residential areas.?

Sir, it's individual residential Homes & their rules. Apparently, has nothing to do with hate for only Secular Community in India aka Muslims. :cray:

I try and give you an example of Communal Jain Community. They are Vegetarian & some don't even eat Onion and Garlic. They'll prefer renting or selling their Property to people within their community or a Communal Community which is Vegetarian. I a Communal, Pork, Beaf, Mutton and Chicken eating Sikh, would ask them to rent their Property to me. They'll refuse to do so, not because of hate but 'cause of Religious Sentiments (some might hate them & vise versa). Off course Meat eating Secular Community too wouldn't like to live in a Communal house and lead vegetarian life?

I have mentioned this several time on Defence.Pk that my best friends are Kashmiri and Iranian National. Both of them lived at my place as tenants. I've even made my Kashmiri friend to debate with Pakistani Kashmiri member on PDF & Gtalk.

We don't hate them, neither their staying at our place hurt our religious sentiments. Hence, we never had problem renting our house to them. It depends on Individual to Individual, if you wish to see it only from Lenses of hate for Secular Community; one can't help it. :drag:

Let me offer you an example of Jain terrorism :D

In my friends apartment in Mumbai there was a flat owned by a very devout jains. When a visiting pack of Jain Munis came to mumbai, that man offered his house for stay and the muni's stayed their for one month.

A few days later the ground started smelling of urine and as the days went by, the smell became intolerable. The society called the watchman and shouted at him for urinating in the building compound. The watchman protested but he was given strict warning that the next time smell come he would loose his job and then the society washed the entire compound area.

The next day the whole place was still smelling of urine but this time the watchman came running to tell us an incredible story. He said that he saw the jain munis pour urine from the balcony !! When the house owner was confronted it turns out that due to religious beliefs the muni's did not want to use the toilet and flush as it would "kill the germs" so they urinated into a bucket and when the bucket was full they went to the balcony and threw the whole thing out into the compound !!!

Thankfully after realizing their mistake (they were rather childlike) they made sure the bucket was carried away to a distant tree and was emptied onto its roots :( ...thankfully the tree survived the jain muni's stay.

.
That's a stupid argument. By that logic, muslims are 18% of India's population. Muslims have been Presidents, Judges, Military leaders, celebrities etc etc.

 is that why these things happen in India? Why the divide ? Why the rabid hate ? Why the mob butchering sessions? And so on? 18% minority that has an unexisting % in your houses and a mere 1-2% representation in your military ? And 1 powerless president to boast abt !etc... Please spare me...
More minorities are killed in Pakistan in an year than Muslims being killed in India in a decade. (dont count Pakistani terrorists being killed in Kashmir).
It's the opposite .. As for " Pakistani" terrorist in IOK .. Homie last time I read Kashmiris took the bodies and and the funerals were attended by thousands n those men were Kashmiris ? And indian army shooting at civilians killing like a dozen? The attrocities committed ? Let's not bring Kashmir or the rants.

actually in the cases above, these people would be denied a flat too.

1) Non-vegetarians (Included meat eating Hindus, Christians too)

2) Single Men/Women

Sometimes in a city like Mumbai you have enclaves of different linguistic groups like Tamils, Punjabis, North-Eastern Indians etc

The younger generation are getting over this.

The house of Ali Ashgar Zaveri who cannot move into his home because of opposition from Hindus

By ANDREW BUNCOMBE
Friday 25 April 2014

The bungalow on Bhavnagar’s Sanatorium Road needs a lick of paint but its spacious plot and location in a quiet residential area would draw the eye of many a prospective buyer.

It certainly caught the attention of Ali Asghar Zaveri, a Muslim scrap metal dealer, who completed the purchase at the beginning of the year and was preparing to move in. But the 30-year-old Mr Zaveri has not been able to occupy his property because many of his prospective Hindu neighbours do not want to live next to a Muslim.

For the last few months, residents of the Krishna Nagar neighbourhood have been sitting outside Mr Zaveri’s property, chanting Hindu prayers and banging metal plates in protest. This week, the issue earned national attention after the leader of an extremist Hindu organisation delivered a speech in which he allegedly urged the residents to occupy the property by force and not to fear the law.

In pictures: India elections 2014

“Go with stones, tyres and tomatoes,” Pravin Togadia, president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), reportedly said.

Delivered half-way through India’s election process, the speech by Mr Togadia was condemned by presumed front-runner Narendra Modi, leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Yet the dispute has drawn attention to the increasing polarisation – political, social and geographic – between Hindus and Muslims in Gujarat, where Mr Modi is serving his fourth term as chief minister.

When The Independent visited Krishna Nagar, four police officers outside the bungalow claimed everything was peaceful. Yet the sense of calm was perhaps deceiving.

A rare Muslim family living nearby said they had been in the area for 30 years and had not experienced any problems. Yet they said Hindu residents did not want new Muslim arrivals. The atmosphere had become tense since Mr Togadia gave his speech.

“We have had no problems. But in this area there are many new Hindu residents. The new people don’t want any more Muslims to settle here,” said Nilufa Lakhani, who has three children.

Her husband, Khalid, said that Mr Zaveri had come and asked him about the neighbourhood and that he told him it was peaceful. He said he knew many cases in Bhavnagar where Muslims had faced similar problems and that the situation had worsened since the 2002 anti-Muslim riots in which the city had suffered badly.

“Whenever you go to buy or rent, the people are dissenting. Their mind-set is that we are traitors,” he said.

Nobody in Krishna Nagar admitted to having been involved in the protests. One man said to have been an organiser refused to comment and loudly admonished his neighbours for discussing the matter.

BJP campaigning in Krishna Nagar area

Yet a number of residents explained the opposition to Mr Zaveri. They claimed most Hindus in Gujarat were strictly vegetarian and the residents would be “upset” by the eating habits of non-vegetarian neighbours. Several said they feared the arrival of Mr Zaveri would lead to more Muslims and that the neighbourhood would stop being Hindu. One man claimed Muslims were not clean.

One Hindu resident, Seema Shah, claimed property prices in the area would fall if a Muslim bought a house because “no Hindu would want to stay next to a Muslim”. “The big problem is of the different culture, the food habits,” said Ms Shah, who claimed the area was full of staunch BJP supporters.

At times, it seems that efforts to keep Krishna Nagar a Hindu area have gone to extreme lengths. One Muslim resident said they had been forced to take on a Hindu name and have a purification ritual, or hawan, involving a fire, performed at their home, in order to remain in the neighbourhood after buying their house.

“There was a ritual right here,” said the resident, who said their parents were of different religions. “Everyone who was involved in this matter came. Now the matter is closed. It’s peaceful.”

The person added: “We wanted to stay in our beautiful house. That is why we changed our name. They asked us to change our surname. They said if you want to stay here, change your name. So that was the solution we came to.”

The person asked not to be identified and declined to identify which residents had insisted on the name change. Another resident, a Hindu, who also asked not to be identified, confirmed the person’s claim, saying the name-changing happened two years ago.

Mr Zaveri bought the bungalow from Kishorsinh Gohil, a businessman who had in turn bought it three years ago with the intention of giving it to his son, who decided he did not like it. “There was no problem and then word leaked out,” he said. “I am not sure who created the problem.”

Charges have been filed against Mr Togadia and the authorities are said to be examining a video recording of the speech he delivered. He has denied the comments and said people were defaming him.

Mr Togadia, who has been previously accused of making similar speeches, failed to respond to questions. However, a VHP leader in Bhavnagar, SD Jani, said he had invited Mr Togadia to visit Bhavnagar and that people wanted to hear him speak.

Mr Jani said they were supporting the residents of Krishna Nagar and he denied that the president of the VHP, which has close links to Mr Modi’s BJP, had made a hate speech. “He said only that the person who purchased the property should go back to his Muslim locality,” he said.

Asked whether the VHP’s actions were damaging India’s attempts to achieve religious and ethnic inclusion, he said it would be better if communities lived in different areas. He even called for the imposition of the state’s so-called disturbed areas act in Bhavnagar so that Hindus and Muslims were prevented from buying property in areas that were predominantly of the other religion.

As it is, Mr Jani’s wish for Hindus and Muslims to live in separate areas is already happening in large parts of urban Gujarat. Areas such as Juhapura in Ahmedabad, where up to 450,000 Muslims live, is separated from Hindu areas by a high wall. Others neighbourhoods such as Citizens’ Nagar, bought by charities as temporary resettlement camps after the 2002 violence which left 2,000 people dead, still do not have regular water, roads or sanitation.

Yet rather than being addressed, the polarisation during Mr Modi’s 12 years as chief minister has increased. The disturbed areas act – initially introduced in 1991 to protect minorities from distress sales in the wake of violence – is now in place in 40 per cent of Ahmedabad. Last summer India’s Supreme Court questioned whether, 12 years after the 2002 killings, so many parts of Ahmedabad remained sensitive areas.

The Indian Express newspaper commented: “More Muslims and Hindus have moved into separate spaces in Gujarat, finding trust and assurance only among neighbours of their own community, and it has ended up entrenching segregation and shutting Muslims out of the mainstream.”

Ikram Baig, of the Islamic Relief Committee of Gujarat, said ghettoisation had started in the 1980s, increasing every time there was violence. Now even wealthy Muslims were buying homes in places such as Juhapura, he said, adding that Mr Modi had never made any genuine attempt to reach out to Muslims. “If he had done it with his heart, then maybe people would have believed him. But his heart is so hard because of his ideology.”

Mr Zaveri has yet to comment on his property dispute and appears to be lying low. He failed to respond to phone calls. His mother, Nafisa, who lives in a narrow lane close to Bhavnagar’s Haluriya roundabout, said she had not seen her son recently and claimed she knew nothing about the bungalow.

Yet she said she had been upset when she learned of Mr Togadia’s speech. She said: “How can India just be a Hindu area if there are Muslims here as well?”

Well it is Gujarat. Sorry to sound harsh, but let me put it bluntly like this.

The reason why there has been no serious religious violence in Gujarat has also partly to do with the fear factor.

Before 2002, Clashes between Muslims and Hindus were pretty high. Gujarat has a long history of this.

However, after 2002, the riots stopped in part because Muslims were terrified of VHP and RSS.

But that being said, in states like Tamil Nadu or kerala there has been minimal communal conflict.

I as an Indian, don't criticise or I am reluctant to criticise Pakistan on it's minorities treatment record anyway, because my nation needs a lot of handwashing to do.

But let's face it, it's not like if the South Asian regions are paragons of Human rights.

.
Well any country where your citizens can't get right to own property and Owner of the building asks other tanent before renting is bound to be none secular

.
Have you seen Shabana Azmi's house ? Do a Google. Atleast we have Muslims who are so famous and have such houses, or have the clout to make such large statements to the media. How many Hindus in prominent positions do you have in Pakistan ?
No but I did see the video where she talks abt discrimination ... I've read articles from your own country on the hindu muslim divide etc? My country has what 2% Hindus ?? They are ministers, chief justices in judges, the old gen is now even serving in the military.. And so on... But hey we do t beat around the bush claiming to be "incredible Pakistan" and pushing serious ...&:? Ups under the rugs.. We do t go on killing n raping thousands in 1 go .. N so on.. We aren't perfect.. We are in a state of war.. Yet I think we are better than you so called "sickular"(your own words) country n it's double standards.
and random articles are a dime a dozen on the net. I can find and post a hundred of them that will say that Pakistan is hell on earth for everyone except Sunni Mullahs and Taliban terrorists. Those have no relation to reality. What you have to see is the macro trend and not micro events
In sure that is the only thi. You can do ..

Things to watch for are

1. Has the percentage population of minorities increased or decreased in India and Pakistan in last 50 years (We all know its increased in India and decreased in Pakistan)
2. Do minorities in Pakistan/India try to immigrate to neighboring countries where they are not in minority (There are 5000 families of Hindus from Pakistan who every year move to India. And who hasn't heard about the plight of Ahmadis who risk many a dangerous journey to seek asylum in other countries. Havent seen such examples of Indian Muslims moving to Pakistan or BD)
3. For every anti Muslim riot in India, I can post 10 instances from Pakistan where Minorities have been deliberately targeted and massacred. So lets not get into that contest.

1st it was East Pakistan tht had a large Hindu population not west Pakistan .. Most Hindus moved to India in 47.. Just like there aren't any Muslims in indian states (except IOK) that border Pakistan ..

2nd those poor Hindus .. That's the best thing for them I guess ... They are piss poor working for land lords. Etc.. N facing hardships just like any poor tenant in Sindh with its feudal culture.
3 yeah and in 24 years of my life I've yet to see Mobs butcherin n raping thousands .. Not even hundreds not even dozens of ppl like in India...

I know my country is far from perfect (which country would be .. Where terrorists have killed thousands and is in a state of war).... But I ain't chest thumping about how awesome we are.. It's the other party.

Decision to lend property to Tenant should be based on

a) Income / Job
b) Down payment for first and last month

Beyond this , there should be no questions asks by Landlord and infact that should be unconstitutional as its the case in many North America

There is no process to "Ask" other residents do they like/love/May be like the neighbor. The reason when countries allow the aspect of "Asking" sure people will see they don't like such and such which creates the problem

Otherwise , refusal to rent out because "What will "Community" think sounds like they are building racial segregation

Countries generally have "Laws" for making sures Landlords do not reject applications based on religion

If India has population of 1 Billion perhaps , and 200 Million (Probably 230 Million) of them are Muslims , that is a big number folks such stories would perhaps cause some serious problems down the line

I know my country is far from perfect (which country would be .. Where terrorists have killed thousands and is in a state of war).... But I ain't chest thumping about how awesome we are.. It's the other party.

btw, Togadia is an a$$hat.

the nature of communal violence in India is that mobs quickly form and in a matter of few days, and hundreds, and thousands gets killed.

Except Muzaffarnagar, from 2002, there hasn't been riots where hundreds have been killed or any other mass mob violence in India.

hopefully India can keep it that way.

Decision to lend property to Tenant should be based on

a) Income / Job
b) Down payment for first and last month

Beyond this , there should be no questions asks by Landlord and infact that should be unconstitutional as its the case in many North America

Otherwise , refusal to rent out because "What will "Community" think sounds like they are building racial segregation

this comment is spot on. Except in a place like Gujarat, I would be curious to see if anyone is willing to jeopardise their electoral chances by going against VHP :/

In sure that is the only thi. You can do ..

Not even hundreds not even dozens of ppl like in India...
your reply is an example of how non sensical arguments have to resort to anecdotal claims and statements when challenged. Not worth responding to since none of the points has any backup statistics. Like, % Hindus in West Pakistan in 1947 vs now. And yes, go back a little bit more than your age and you will see 3 million rapes inflicted by your own army on your own citizens. The famous Gen Niazi and his attempt to alter the gene pool of East Pakistanis.

 is that why these things happen in India? Why the divide ? Why the rabid hate ? Why the mob butchering sessions? And so on? 18% minority that has an unexisting % in your houses and a mere 1-2% representation in your military ? And 1 powerless president to boast abt !etc... Please spare me...

:omghaha: Pakistani lecturing an Indian on the divide. What you have is instances of riots 12 years back of 2 communities engaging in a violent conflict now and then in INdia against systematic genocide of first Hindus, Sikhs and Ahmadis and now Shias in Pakistan. Come to me when you have a graph showing any of your minorities % population going up. Till then what you say is just anecdotal rants and nothing else. I can very well show you that in India on the other hand, the % of every single minority has gone up since independence. Single most indication that minorities are growing and prospering. Exactly the opposite from Pakistan where every single minority's % in population has gone down in last 67 years.
