they don't have to touch your underpants....... if they only pass closer to that....... it will detect if you have anything inside your underpants

They were quite within their rights to refuse & the airline was quite within it's rights to refuse to let them fly. But it sure is a dumb reason to bring religion into this.. A friend of mine was saying he's seen many, including his own mother getting an ex ray in Saudi Airport.

there is nothing like that in Saudi Arabia...... such machines have only been introduced recently and in West so far

I have been to Saudi Arabia....... they still use that decades old manual system for data entry and you are saying they have these machines

Did you ever go through it? They do search you and anyone can tell by doing so if you have concealed something or not.

Although at start we feel offended when they touch you for searching.

Ladies officers can take "female passengers" to private room and check them properly

for mens its ok..... since 99% mens don't care about their images being stored like that or they can also check them in a private area if they have any kind of doubts

i don't mind scanners....... but if anybody do not wish to pass through these scanners..... they can should have alternative ways too

Muslim women barred for refusing scan

TWO Muslim women were stopoed from boarding a flight from Britain to Pakistan for refusing to go through new body scanners, citing religious and medical reasons, airport officials say.

The pair - travelling together at Manchester airport last month - are the first confirmed cases in Britain of anyone being refused travel since body scanners became mandatory at the airports using them on February 1.

The two women, who are British residents, were travelling on a Pakistan International Airlines flight to Islamabad from Manchester Airport in northwest England on February 19.

They were randomly selected to go through the scanners but refused to do so, Britain's busiest non-London airport said.

"Two female passengers who were booked to fly out of Terminal 2 refused to be scanned for medical and religious reasons," a Manchester Airport spokesman said today. "In accordance with the government directive on scanners, they were not permitted to fly."


Manchester Airport said security officers spent half an hour with the women listening to their concerns and explaining how the scanners worked but they still chose not to fly.

London Heathrow Airport, the world's busiest passenger air hub, is the only other British airport with a body scanner so far but has no record of anyone refusing to use it.

Two Muslim women in the United Kingdom refused a full-body scan at an airport, becoming the first fliers to do so, the Daily Mail reports.

The women were traveling together to Islamabad when they were selected at random by security officials to be screened with the full-body scanner.

According to the London newspaper, one of the women refused to pass through because of religious objections, while the other cited medical reasons.

Airport staff then informed the women that they would not be allowed to board the Pakistan International Airlines flight if they were not willing to be scanned.

The women agreed to forfeit their tickets, valued at about $600 each, and leave the airport with their luggage.

An estimated 15,000 people reportedly have already passed through the scanners since they were introduced at Heathrow and Manchester airports on Feb. 5, including Muslim passengers.

The news comes on the heels of a fatwa issued by a group of North American Islamic scholars last month forbidding Muslim-Americans from passing through the devices, saying they violate the faith’s teachings on modesty.

Following the decree, the Transportation Security administration issued a statement saying all passengers could opt out of full-body scanners and instead under go pat downs.
