Muslim superhero comic meets resistance in the US.

Most animes do wear kimonos very often, and american otakus also wear them in anime conventions

Some of them do ...the ones with Japanese characters . Its because martial arts , exotic fighting techniques captures the public's imagination and adds to the charm of the superhero .

As for other traditional dresses ....from the subcontinent, middle -east , they rouse no interest.

Truth is I talk about religion(or the lack of it) and joke around quite freely here in UAE. Heck I even draw the jesus fish sign on this athiest kid's bag for fun

I grew up in the UAE......and now that you mention it, yes the country is rather too liberal. But some would argue, it is "too liberal" to be Islamic. I am on a never ending quest to figure out what the "real islam" is. Unfortunately, the Muslims themselves ( atleast those that i talk with) are confused.

Then maybe we should start doing what the Japanese did. Make it rouse an interest. Americans hated the Japanese with a passion during and after WW2 but now Japan is idolized in there. Maybe we should learn from them.

Dude where is it said that it's banned in US? I read the article and it says it was banned KSA but later revoked, and some random bloggers of US nationality made fun of Burqa clad wonder-woman! I'd too, but then I don't represent Republic of India nor does the bloggers represent United States of America.

Thing is these people are putting pressure on it for it's marketing capability. If utilized perfectly it could be free publicity lol.

Unfortunately the America public would rather see a burqa-clad villain than a hero. Its all about what impression of your culture you portray to an audience.

Americans don't see Islamic culture as something to be admired and emulated. Its about perceptions.

Well there are some things you can say are more western than the west, like wearing tiny shorts and really tight sleevlesss tops(that show side boobs) in a freezing cold air conditioned mall. (ofcourse it's okay outside where it's hot)

At time after WW2 American even hated all Asian looking people. It is about how you play your cards. It is about a long progress of showing that our culture is also ok and not only your culture is the best thing ever.

The Japanese don't go by religion. They go by culture. Bushido, or 'Way of the Warrior Knight' runs deeply in Japanese culture and always has. And they take their honor very seriously. They have a very powerful culture.

Technically, Imperial Japan envisioned herself to be the 'leader of Asia'. And of leader of Asia they have. Manga, anime, Toyota, Sony, etc are all household names.

Politically and militarily, Japan is a lapdog of the US. And will remain that way forever, or as long as Uncle Sam is around. And he'll be around for a long time despite exaggerated claims about his impending doom.

Frankly, I think that Muslims just can't be compared to the Japanese now. Although there are similarities. The Japanese troops would die for their emperor just as the likes of the Taliban would die for Allah. It is just that now, there are too many ongoing issues.

9/11 was like Pearl Harbor to them - an act of war. And they'll reply back just as they did before. America is a dangerous nation when provoked. I'd say, never ever wake a sleeping giant.

It is just that, there is a long way to go for Muslims to be in the same image as Japan in the eyes of Americans. And most of all, the Muslim World is extremely fragmented at the moment. No unity, nothing. And I feel that Muslims do not take enough responsibility for what they say or do in view of this world and towards each other.

OFF TOPIC............

I once saw a cartoon series where there was an Arab Motorbike rider among other superheroes (other where pilots, drivers)

They formed some kind of a G I Joe like sqaud .... Can't remember the shows name

The Japanese are a race so you can't compare them to Muslims since a Muslim is someone who adheres to the religion of Islam and Muslims come in all races. It would make more sense to compare the Japanese to a certain race within Islam.

Well, Americans love food, and middle Eastern food and food from Muslim countries in general is really tasty and fulfilling, in NYC you will find Gyro and Kebab stands on every corner and block, i know some people who work on those stands and they make a load of cash every day because the food sells a lot.
