Anyway, I do find the idea of first feeding and lovingly treating an animal only to kill it later and eat it a bit disturbing. But it's okay since it's a part of their religion and they must be free to practice it.

it was a nice gesture, but given how a lot of Hindus are voracious consumers of meat themselves, I'm not sure about the civilizational values/roots bit.
