SURAT: Music director Ismail Darbar is busy singing his famous composition 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' these days. Only, this time around his love object is politics.
Darbar recently joined the BJP after being encouraged by party president Nitin Gadkari.
"Surat is my birthplace and I want to serve my people as a loyal and committed BJP worker," Darbar told TOI over telephone from Mumbai on Wednesday. Although Darbar has not yet met chief minister Narendra Modi, the move may help Modi in his bid woo Muslims in the state and change his image nationally. Darbar, 47, decided to join BJP on May 27 following a visit to Gadkari's hometown Nagpur on the occasion of the BJP leader's birthday. The composer has shown his willingness to contest the next parliamentary polls from Surat. Darbar frequently visits his ancestral home in the Muslim-dominated Talavdi area in Sagrampura after his mother died. He plans to meet local BJP leaders this week.
