With self-exiled retired General Pervez Musharraf as its chief, the All-Pakistan Muslim League was launched by his close aides here on Tuesday.

Equating the present situation with that of 1906 when the All-India Muslim League was launched, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, a central leader of the new party, said that as the AIML overcame hurdles on its way to success, “God willing, ours would also become a popular political party and play its role in Pakistan’s progress.”

Speaking at a press conference at the Karachi Press Club with retired Major-General Rashid Qureshi, another central leader of the party, Mr Saif said the party was against hereditary politics and would carry out its politics in a democratic manner to serve the people.

“Our motto remains ‘Pakistan first’, and remaining above all personal, regional and group considerations we will make every necessary sacrifice for Pakistan,” he said.

Mr Saif said their party had received a good response from the people and political activists, including leaders from the PML-Q, the PML (Likeminded) and the Awami Muslim League. He added that during his three-day stay in Karachi, he had been contacted by a number of representatives of labour, women and youth organisations who wanted to join the party. He mentioned some of the men seated with him, including Zubair Khan and Anwar Warsi.

He said that in the first phase, organisational councils at the district, divisional and provincial levels were being set up and in the second phase those who were made council members would be given responsibilities after forming Karachi and provincial councils. They would be visiting Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir and Balochistan.

In reply to questions repeatedly asked by journalists that before entering politics, Gen Musharraf should clear himself of the charges of massacre at Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa in Islamabad, the May 12 killings in Karachi, the assassinations of PPP leader Benazir Bhutto and Akbar Bugti in Balochistan, Mr Saif said those were political allegations and would be responded to at a proper platform and at an appropriate time through the presentation of facts. Doubts were created in people’s minds by opponents of Gen Musharraf and “we would fully satisfy the people”, he added.

Regarding the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, he said: “They are our brothers” and that he hoped they would extend cooperation in “our political journey”.

Rashid Qureshi said Gen Musharraf would soon return to Pakistan. He, however, could not give a date or month of his return, saying that it would be determined by the former president himself.

After the press conference, responding to a question, Rashid Qureshi said the PML-N — instead of being concerned about Pakistan’s wellbeing — was doing politics of vendetta and that was why Pakistan had reached the present crisis situation.

Responding to another question, he said had there been any other ruler in Pakistan at the time, he would have carried out an operation against Lal Masjid, or else the fate of Islamabad would not have been different from that of Swat.

Yeah. Hurray !

Nine years are enough to "change Pakistan" under a regime. You're retired now and if golf and parties are boring, then join a think tank and just go on lecture tours. Get another book ghost written. He complained that greedy politicians wante to return to power, hence the two limit term. He's spent a long time at the helm of affairs, now it's time to relax.

Anyways, it's again a party of floor crossers and rejected people. A defection from here, another from there plus the loyal Sher Afgan and Barrister Saif crowd.

Facebook not eqaul to vote bank.

:) Whats wrong in this ????

isnt floor crossing and lotacracy already a halmark of our political parties.

Now if someone supports democracy then in such a system isnt it right of every citizen to stand for election ?

And yes as far a the vote bank is concerned i dont think so individuals with no feudal political background and familycracy can win many seats.

Just look at Imran Khan and his PTI. This democracy based on family political parties based on fedualism is to strong to dent by individuals like Musharraf or Imran

But "upright and honest Musharraf" isn't the average politician, is he? Don't rely on lotas if you're claiming to be distinctive. Also, rejected people joining is just hopeless.

Indeed it is. I was referring to him calling others "greedy" earlier and imposing the two limit ban in order to stop their path to power. Now, he wants to come back to power (in his dreams only), then where's the "greed" now? Also, there are people who "adore" you. Don't make them sad with a hopeless return.

And yes as far a the vote bank is concerned i dont think so individuals with no feudal political background and familycracy can win many seats.

Not always true. In rare cases people have one in the past two decades as well. I can recount examples if you'd like me to. Ever heard of MQM as well? Heard of an independent communist winning in 2002? Urban areas mostly require support of the party that is dominant in the region, the person mostly doesn't matter in many cases. Also remember that the '70 elections didn't bring the percentage of feudals that we have today. Generally speaking, that is true but it isn't impossible.

Just look at Imran Khan and his PTI. This democracy based on family political parties based on fedualism is to strong to dent by individuals like Musharraf or Imran

PTI gave tickets to thug and former PML-N supporter Jazi in Pindi and rejected PPP and PML-N candidates in by-elections. Everybody has to resort to this technique. Then any party cannot claim to be different on account of its main players. Also, I sincerely want Imran to return to fundraiser and philanthropy. Having worked for PTI, it's a dictatorship and downright totalitarian besides Imran imposing a super right wing ideology alongwith his Taliban sympathies.

Anyways, will we see tele-conferences from London now? Altaf is the usual telephonic khitaab, Musharraf with his new Cisco khitaab.

oh here we go again another fauji national party in making

It’s a beacon of Hope for Pakistan in this Darkest Age. I Welcome the move.

COME ON sparkling way! you know it politics in pakistan is done like this! be it PML(Q), PML(N), MQM or PPP!!

the problem is the same bloody corrupt people are elected and until someone is hung or killed they never become the "IMMORTAL HERO" of pakistan!!

we love our dead! & choose the inept as our leaders! so i don't blame musharraf 9 years he has become on the same lot!!! who have no morals & see corruption as their supreme right! :coffee:

dont worry this was tried at gun point with full force in past no one can do a thing the plan back fired and only resulted in increase its popularity , its to cover punjab mostly nawaz league is out next few years thats why all parties have eyes on punjab.

.
The General reserves the right to take a plunge into politics. But for that, he needs to return first.

The initial moves so far, of the party, suggest it won't get far. With spokesmen like Maj Gen (R) Rashid Qureshi and Barrister Saif, the latest league of leagues hasn't got much of a chance. You want to turn around the country, then you need to turn around yourself first.

He got my vote!

Jee jee zaror, Musharraf is a Pakistani citizen and he holds all rights to launch his political party. If the peoples are willing to vote for him once again, most welcome and i would say its a good decision in the end.

But i seriously think he will not be able to succeed any elections anymore.
