KARACHI - Minister of State for Ports and Shipping and leader of the PPP, Nabeel Gabol Tuesday said that there was no difference between the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and the covert deal stuck between PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif with former military dictator Pervez Musharraf.
Talking to mediamen at the protest camp, he said: The agreement reached between Nawaz Sharif and Musharraf which bound Nawaz for not taking part in the politics for ten years. The agreement date will end on December 30.
It may be mentioned here that the NRO was promulgated in October 2007 following a deal struck between the slain chairperson of PPP, Benazir Bhutto, with the former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.
Nabeel Gabol, who is also a central executive committee member of PPP, said that the MQM and PPP were natural allies and the differences between the two parties could adversely affect the development of Sindh province.
MQM was playing in the hands of mischievous elements but now they have realised the gravity of the situation, he said. These elements are not the friends of both the parties and they want to destabilise the metropolis because the destabilisation of Karachi will destabilise the entire country, he added.
Gabol brushed aside the impression that President Asif Zardari was weak and losing grip on the government. President Zardari is the co-chairman of the PPP and the PPP has strengthened the federation.
He warned that any conspiracy of destabilising the present elected government of the PPP could badly affect the federation.
Dictatorial regimes of Ziaul Haq and Pervez Musharraf too had failed to affect the PPP. Now, democratically elected government of the PPP will complete the five years term, he maintained.
Gabol said that some rotten-eggs were also the part of PPPs government but he urged the opponents not to harm the PPP government because of rotten-eggs.
To a query, he accepted the poor performance of some ministers saying that December is the month of sacrifices and someone have to make sacrifices in this month.
He applauded the efforts of Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani. He said that he (General Kayani) knew his duties and said that the war in Waziristan was not for the sake of Pakistan alone but this was a war for those countries too who suffer from terrorism.
