Hey, big spender
WASHINGTON: Pakistan's fight with extremism would have been in better shape had the United States invested more in the nation's schools and girls and not just its military, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.
The United States has pumped more than seven billion dollars into Pakistan's military since the September 11, 2001 attacks, which transformed the nation from Taliban backers into frontline US ally.

In an interview with The New York Times Magazine to be published Sunday, Clinton said she had told Pakistan's former military leader Pervez Musharraf that more of the money should be going to education.

She recalled a trip to a Pakistani village, where families hesitated to children —particularly girls —because the children would need to travel away to the closest school.

‘When I think about the extraordinarily accomplished Pakistanis in the professions, in medicine, in education, I think it is certainly the case that if Pakistan had invested more in the education of children so that poor families would not have sent their boys off to be educated by extremists, it might well have made a difference,’ Clinton said.

‘And it still can, because that's part of our approach now,’ she said. US lawmakers have voted to provide 7.5 billion dollars for Pakistan over the next five years —largely in support for social development including building schools.

President Barack Obama's administration has made the fight against extremism in Pakistan and neighboring Afghanistan a key foreign policy priority.

, stating that the parties had agreed to an out-of-court settlement.

i know it might not liked by many members on this forum.

musharaf was a better leader who has done very good things for the country and moreover, his competitors (zardari and nawaz) both combined have done less than what musharaf has done in his tenure for the country. the way he handled 9/11 and US is comendable, then he brought really good and competent professioals in his first cabinet (attaurrehman in science and tech, shauket aziz in finance etc) who have taken the country out of financial mess and improved the science and tech field hugely. with the passage of time he became a "yes sir" kind of person for US which was very bad for pakstan. in summary, he had good points and bad points as well and in my opinion was a much better leader than nawaz and zardari both combined.

but he is also a criminal according to our law, he broke the constitution and should be punished. i am not saying nawaz and zardari are not criminals, they are may be bigger criminals than him and they also should be punished.

i think my friends, we should think why are we trying to rememeber criminals and why are we trying to justify one is better criminal than the another. i hope in future my country can have an honest and true leader with the support of people and never by any of these 3.

i know some members will argue that he has never been convicted and no proof against him or remaining 2 but we are mature educated people talking here, and we know that these three are criminals and and should be punished for their sins and never should be able to come and run our country.

lastly, my dear pakistani friends, we should start thinking about getting a leader who is not corrupt at all instead of thinking who is less corrupt and who is more corrupt, dont you people think it is the time to change our selves? i mean we should leave something good in pakistan for our children instead of leaving them behind in a worse mess than what was left to us by our forefathers.

that was my opinion and had no intentions to hurt anyone s feelings

regards

sincerely

Sorry to say that this is heresy.

I have heard Rtd. Lt Gen Tariq Pervez make this allegation in Capital Talk. For the record, Tariq Pervez also known as TP who was Quetta Corps Commander, was acting as spy of Nawaz Sharif and used to leak the discussions during Corps Commanders meeting to NS. Pakistan senior military commanders need to advise GHQ before they meet political leaders. When TP persisted he was fired by
Musharraf in his capacity as Army Chief. Thus it is TP who was passing secrets to NS. However, since the bigot Hamid Mir and Geo Group are sworn enemies of Musharraf, they try to dig up all those who have a grudge against Musharraf and let them have their say no
matter how big a lie.

For example Hamid Mir said TP was friend of Musharraf (incorrect) and deliberately hid the fact the TP was relieved of his command on Musharaf's orders; so that gullible people can accept the pack of lies that Mushy's enemies dish out.

The entire Army top brass seem to me like an institution looking to destroy this country, from the days of Ayub Khan till now our guardians seem to be our biggest enemy. In Ayub Khan's days we had top bureaucracy decided and chosen by him and then the wealth remained in those hands to date we have the same families running the bureaucrat scene. We then had the worst Dictator according to analysts in the shape of Yahya Khan who lost us half our country. Swiftly moving on from that stage we had a attempt towards socialism which further destroyed us piece by piece, Zia-ul-Haq then topped his predecessors by bringing drugs, Afghans, Guns and a strange religious zeal to the country. After a few years of democracy during which we had a helluva lot of army intervention as we can see in the news nowadays we had another man named Musharraf who like Demosthenes had the gift of the silver tongue and managed a poor but saving country (and I mean the people here not the government) into loan taking people who are now stuck in this quagmire. Looking across the political scene we have 4 major parties all that have originated by the blessings or support of Dictators.

PPP which started with a push from Yahya Khan

PML-N which started from Zia-ul-Haq

MQM ditto

PML-Q which has now broken into smaller bits but yeah it originated from Musharraf

we don't at the moment have any party with influence that was actually setup in a civillian age.

Hence I feel that Army is probably the institution that needs to be blamed most for the mess we are in.

I know of not a single officer in the entire of Pakistan Army who would throw away his career by meeting leaders of political parties when he is a Brigadier and not even posted to Karachi. On top of that, the claim that Musharraf would take his staff car to the MQM headquarters is laughable.

The most amazing thing about these recent claims by TP is that they have been attributed to Gen Iqbal, who is no longer around to vouch for these claims. Essentially TP never saw anything for himself and the best way to put forth these claims is to attribute them to someone who is dead. Nice! Poor Gen Iqbal is probably turning in his grave right now.

Hon Sir, The reality remains that TP breached regulations and paid for it; thus a proven fact. On the other hand, what TP said about Musharraf is pure allegation which cannot be ascertained because TP quoted a general who is no longer living.

If despite this, you chose to ignore TP's guilt and consider Musharaf a villian instead, it is your personnel choice and you are welcome it.
No one can argue with the one who insists it is night when the sun is shining.
