Lawyer barred from meeting Musharraf in Sub-jail | Pakistan | DAWN.COM

ISLAMABAD: The Secretary General of the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and lawyer for Pervez Musharraf were prevented on Sunday from meeting the former military ruler at his Chak Shehzad farmhouse, DawnNews reported.

Raja Ibrahim Satti, counsel for Musharraf was stopped from entering the residence of the party chief which was declared as a sub-jail.

The private security deployed at the 5000 acre farmhouse in the outskirts of Islamabad were also removed along with all communication facilities provided to the General (retired) Pervez Musharraf.

Party leader Dr Mohammad Amjad said that the food provided to the former president was not being checked and that the Punjab government would be responsible for any untoward incident in this regards.

The APML chief has been confined to two-rooms at his palatial residence and spent the first night under house arrest after local administration of Islamabad declared the farmhouse residence of former military dictator a sub-jail following an anti-terrorist court’s order granting him 14-day judicial remand in the judges’ detention case.

Civilians were also prohibited from visiting the area around the residence of the former military dictator and the surrounding locality is under strict security surveillance with the help of CCTV cameras.

A court had issued warrants for Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s arrest in the judges’ detention case in December last year when the former military ruler was abroad on a self-imposed exile.

He had sought protective-bail in a number of cases against him which were granted by the Sindh High Court on March 22, a couple of days prior to his arrival back in Pakistan.

The protective-bail granted was extended periodically while at the same time Musharraf sought to sort out his election campaign.

The former military ruler received serious blows when his nomination papers were rejected and he was ultimately thrown out of the election race.

His bail application was cancelled on April 18 by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui in the judges detention case.

I think now they are going overboard and breaking the law. Basic right to counsel are granted by the constitution to every Pakistani. Such excesses will turn Musharraf into a hero. Already converting a 344 case into a terrorism case in hard to swallow by even the most ardent Musharraf haters, the barring of right to counsel is going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Impartiality of judge hearing Parvez Musharraf's case questioned - The Economic Times

ISLAMABAD: Pervez Musharraf's party today questioned the impartiality of the judge who revoked the former military ruler's bail and ordered his arrest, saying he had once served as a counsel for a radical cleric of the Lal Masjid here.

Musharraf was remanded to judicial custody for a fortnight yesterday, two days after Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court cancelled his pre-arrest bail and directed police to detain him.

The All Pakistan Muslim League, however, said Siddiqui's "personality is highly controversial" as he had earlier served as the lawyer for Abdul Aziz, one of the top clerics of the Lal Masjid, against which Musharraf ordered a military operation in 2007.

Siddiqui also contested the 2002 general election on a Jamaat-e-Islami ticket from a parliamentary constituency in Rawalpindi, said APML spokesperson Aasia Ishaque.

"Pervez Musharraf was subjected to judicial terrorism in the Islamabad High Court," she said.

Siddiqui had represented Abdul Aziz in an anti-terrorism court following his arrest during the Lal Masjid operation and later succeeded in getting Aziz's home declared a "sub-jail" so that he could be detained at his residence, she added.

"Personal vendetta against Pervez Musharraf is being carried out by appointing political workers as judges. It's very ironic that the lawyer of a terrorist is giving judgement in a terrorism case against Pervez Musharraf," Ishaque said.

After revoking Musharraf's bail, Siddiqui had directed police to charge him under the Anti-Terrorism Act for detaining over 60 judges during the 2007 emergency.

As a result, Musharraf was yesterday produced in an anti-terrorism court that remanded him to judicial custody.

"The APML strongly demands that Justice Siddiqui should be immediately removed from the court and his recent orders, especially in Pervez Musharraf's case, should be set aside," Ishaque said.

Other sources too confirmed to PTI that Siddiqui had served as the counsel for the Lal Masjid cleric and twice contested polls from Rawalpindi on a Jamaat-e-Islami ticket.

Siddiqui was among the judges detained during the 2007 emergency and several legal experts and commentators have questioned his decision to take up Musharraf's case.

The 69-year-old former military ruler is currently being held at his farmhouse on the outskirts of Islamabad after it was declared a "sub-jail". He will be produced in the anti-terrorism court again on May 4.

About 100 people were killed when army troops conducted an operation against extremists holed up in the Lal Masjid.

Since then, militants linked to the radical mosque have threatened to target Musharraf. They have also carried out suicide attacks and bombings that targeted the security forces.

It's unheard of anywhere in the world that the same judges who spent 2 weeks house arrest under Musharraf's rule are hearing the same case? Moreover he's also gotten 2 weeks house arrest?

When the same judges were overreaching and hauling Gilani and Raja Rental into court, we were cheering them. Now when they are after other sacred cows like Gen Musharraf, we don't like them?

Let the courts go through their process for Gen Musharraf too.

these moroons will try their best to get him killed. they have removed his personal security and have left on merci of Pakistani police whose rate is usually below 100 Rs. they also giving him now unchecked food, which means quite easily he can poisoned.
Legally they cannot convict him without convicting themselves and entire political pile of scum of Pakistan.

For now, they want to make sure he is not able to participate in elections and his party is demoralized maximum.

I only can wish he is able to get out alive from that place what has become now almost a hell-hole.

the same judges were not detained by the PPP and neither were they part to the lal-masjid case.

I don't think its possible at the moment :D

Its called poetic justice, and its hard to find a judge who has not been jailed by Musharraf :D

From the article: If the state doesn’t display wisdom, balance and equity and justice doesn’t flow from the courts it will soon start flowing through the barrel of a gun toted either by the army with gloves off or terrorists

This man is inciting a mutiny in Army and should be reported to courts. Interestingly he also puts Terrorists and Army men together.

he is not inciting, he is talking about a possibility or a warning,,, nor is he equating terrorists with army. , if you read everything in context carefully.

Threatening that Army will kill unless.... is exactly inciting a mutiny. Secondly by gloves he means that Army will terrorize in secret - shameless creature. I have sent a copy of the article to supreme court registrar. Such thuggery will not be tolerated - naya Pakistan :coffee:

we all know how raja rental has done corruption, and how gilani has protected zardari, they did a crime, musharraf didnt do that

who will bring the 'rule of law' ,, those thugs ? or their Kaana chief ?

The quetion here is, why didnt Kaana targetted Zardari, as that would have been like killing mother of evil, rather than a leaf of evil.

OR sending Gilani home after he had enough looting in 4 years was enough for the show for the time being?
