The Sarhad is no man's land. You and I both know it. It is an extremely porous border that the Taliban and Al Qaida and come and go to-and-fro.

So if the Talib's can, why not NATO/US forces? After all, they would have studied the region in detail by now, six years on.

Whose pemission do they really need? They can simply come in, do their man hunt. And Pakistan Army will do a cover up, just as it did with the Bugti issue.

Yes they'd make a few incursions into Pak against our will perhaps. But if they want to make in troops that'd be invasion and hence... armed conflict.

Plus Pak troops would be there to prevent a large mobilization of Nato troops.

Bush was asked would US troops do a hot pursuit of Bin Laden in Pakistan, he said "absolutely". Obviously nobody is planning an invasion, so why are you dragging the discussion in that direction?

The question is, beyond public statements, can Musharraf prevent an hot pursuit by US/NATO forces into FATA, Waziristan etc. The answer is probably no. I would like to hear your views.

The answer is no but more importantly it is irrelevant to Pak. that NATO engages in this. Right now they are taking casualities in Southern Afghanistan, if they engage in Nothern Pak. they will only incrase the number of casualities they suffer.

So, you are waiting for their convinience instead? Not now cuz they're busy in Helmand but then later? I don't understand your point?

I believe the words hot pursuit were left out this time.

Also even incursions would be blocked by Pak army. Incoming US troops have previously been shot at as well by Pak Rangers who defend the borders.

So its pretty obvious they'd want some ground in Pakistan. I know there won't be an invasion thus he'd try to strong arm his way to get some ground within Pakistan. But Musharraf can say no this time without hearing the stone age comment again.
