Mumbai II could lead to a full blown Indo-Pak war

surgical strikes may seem small but they will be countered by each side with something greater, this process would repeat it self until full scale war. Lets try to avoid war.....

It is about security for America.

Security situation for Americans is different from that of India. As far as US of A is concerned, there are mainly extremists groups and individuals trying to kill Americans. Whereas in India it is mainly state sponsored terrorism and regional animosity. We know that it is mainly one nation (actually China is also helping the insurgents in North east India) which is perpetrating acts of terrorism to achieve it's machinations. We have to decide the threshold for war and whether the war needs to be limited or full blown, otherwise covert actions can take care of the perpetrators of the attacks.

But one thing you can write down on paper.If there is a war and it gets out of control(history suggests that wars usually start small) you wouldn't be left in the state to talk about the aftermath of war on this forum.

Cold Start, Surgical Strike and the limited war are the dumbest things that one can think of in the scenario of South Asia. Mumbai attacks. OK yeah it is very grave and sorry incident. But it is a very dumb thing to put the lives of thousand or even millions if some dozen people have lost their lives in a terrorist attack. You can't let people kill in thousands just because 100+ people have died in a terrorist attack. Their are diplomatic channels through which one can present his case and can save one's interests. A war is a war and you can't decide that OK on Tuesday we would end the war. Things can go from bad to worse in no time. That is what the fanboy youth of India should understand.

Wow you guys have already assumed that on being attacked Pak army will be annihilated to such an extent that they will be forced to use the nukes. Moreover what about the scenario when Indian Army would have breached the PAKMIL defenses and crossed into Lahore ??? Will PAKMIL use nukes on their own people. Guys the nuking policy is much more complex and India wont push PAKMIL to such an extent that even the reserves would be decimated, that is the threshold for nuking. We will let PAKMIL have enough reserves for a conventional counter offense and the intervention of UN and world powers also needs to be taken into consideration. The nuke war is a last scenario and PAKMIL wont have the guts to use it in a limited war knowing fully that the whole of PAK would be eliminated in retaliation.

Not more dumb than protecting a UN sanctioned terrorist like Hafiz Saeed & calling him a charity worker aka Pakistan's Mother Theresa. If you continue to look the other way & take no action to put guys like these out of business, then expect to see calls for retaliation if an incident like the Mumbai attacks happens again.

As for things going from bad to worse, maybe its time that your officials take that advice. Things don't go from bad to worse only for India. If India's nuclear weapons don't deter Pakistan from risking confrontation with India, then it's only fair to surmise that Pakistan's nuclear capability won't deter India beyond a point from taking action if it were forced to.

No matter what you say nobody is going to go nuclear over some limited actions. Not all of Pakistani officials share your desire for early suicide.

Yup you are right maybe major parts of India will survive.But have you considered the kind of life there.Maybe you should watch the movie "The book of eli" to get an idea.And that's is of course if they can survive for LONG with radioactive food,water,air and soil.
