Can this replace what artillery bofors can do , especially if the roads are motorable/semi motorable or even cargoed to hilly north east and kashmir .If so What is the need for Artillery like bofors when something like Pinaka can do a much better job !

Else please advise what is the particular need for Artillery like bofors

Artillery offers a lot of advantages compared to MBRL

1.Cost

A MBRL is way costlier than an artillery shell.

2.Logistics

An artillery system could be easily resupplied in the field of battle.A single convoy could deliver far more shells that rockets.

3.Munition diversity

A gun could fire different type of munitions from same barrel.

4.Transportability

Even though, guns on their own are not mobile but they can be easily transported and placed in most unimaginable positions.

5.Operability

A gun is much easier to handle and reload once it has been fired.

6.Rate of sustained fire

A point related to 1,2&5.Because of these Artillery could maintain constant rate of fire over time on an target thus not allowing enemy to regroup.


These are some of the factors which i knew.Anyway the efficacy of a weapon system depends upon situation.In mountain areas a humble Mortar is much useful than any artillery or MBRL system
