According to media news Sufi Muhammad was arrested today along with his two sons from his home in Peshawar. According to geo news he was invited for some small function in Peshawar but his cover was blown and he was arrested from his home. But some of media channels are denying this news and channels like Waqat, Duniya news, they are saying that security force tried to catch him but when they reached his home he was not there...

Not confirmed. There is no question of having any cover because he was holding meetings with people from Swat yesterday and his son himself gave the details of his meetings to media.

PESHAWAR: Amir Tehreek Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi Maulana Sufi Muhammad along with his two sons has been taken into custody from an area of Peshawar.

According to sources, heavy police contingent carried out a raid in City Town area located next to G.T. Road in Peshawar and took into custody Maulana Sufi Muhammad along with his two sons, Ziaullah and Rizwanullah. An accomplice identified as Tahir has also been apprehended.

They have been shifted to an unknown location.

However, CCPO Peshawar Safwat Ghayoor said he had no knowledge about the above development.

It may be mentioned here that it was disclosed a day earlier that Maulana Sufi Muhammad has a residence in Peshawar.

Sources say he has been living in the Peshawar residence for the last one and a half month.

there are two theories circulating
1. Sufi Muhammad will testify against TTP Swat . TTP swat wants to kill him and thats why he is taken into custody

2. Sufi Muhammad has lost his charm due to his selfish activities. in 2001 he caused capture of 10000 of his followers by Northern alliance and him self came back.... he always played safe and sacrificed his innocent followers. Now government want his trial when he is fully exposed

executing him espicially without a trial will make a martyr out of him.

The better path would be to make him renounce his stand on national TV and ask Taliban to give up terrorist activities. His ideology has to be exposed so that any public support he has is completely eliminated.

wait a min. I thought Sufi Muhammad was captured by ISI while swat operation, and they toke him to muzafarabad. How come he suddenly appeared in peshawar?

Nothing fishy, it's standard SOP for intel to first arrest some guy and interrogate him outside the legal system and than either drop them off at a police station or in this case in peshawar where the provincial government was notified and picked him up a day later.
