TEHRAN -- “Muhammad (S), the Messenger of God”, Majid Majidi’s epic about the childhood of the Prophet of Islam (S), was screened at the Oktyabr Kino (October Cinema) in Moscow on Saturday.
Majidi, Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Sanai and a large number of Russian moviegoers attended the screening of the film, some Persian news websites reported on Sunday.
Speaking at a review session held after the film screening, Russian Mikhalov (first name not given in the report) said that he believes the film gives the audience a chance to gain true knowledge and discover the real events.
“Today is a great day for me and I am glad that a famous filmmaker promotes Persian culture, a culture that has existed in the world for centuries and is vast and rich,” the filmmaker said.
The Russian director expressed happiness over watching the film and hoped that Russian people would have a proper understanding of the film.
Majidi on his part pointed to the extensive efforts he made in making the film and said, “Islam is the religion of peace and friendship, and I tried to depict the kindness of Prophet ‘Muhammad’ (S) in this film.”
In addition, a review session attended by reporters and journalists from different Russian news agencies, and TV channels from Turkey and Armenia was held one day ahead of the film screening.
“I tried to open a wide window of true Islam to the Western world; a window, which could show a drop of the ocean of the kindness of the Prophet (S) and the real nature of the religion of Islam,” Majidi told the reporters.
Majidi emphasized that the growing terrorist movements in the world of Islam and the development of Islamophobia in the West made him determined to make the film.
He said that his other goal was to reinforce unity among the Muslim nation in the world and added, “I consulted both Shia and Sunni scholars from across the Muslim world before making the film.
“I have tried to make a film that would develop friendship in the Islamic world, so I chose a period of the Prophet’s life, over which a consensus exists among all Muslims,” he concluded.
Renowned international craftsmen and artists such as editor Roberto Perpignani, special effects designer Scott E. Anderson, makeup designer Gianetto De Rossi and Indian composer A. R. Rahman have collaborated with Majidi in the production.
The 39th Montreal World Film Festival opened with the world premiere of the movie in May 2015.
With a budget of over $50 million, the 171-minute movie is the most expensive film ever made in Iran in five years.
