Mufti Popalzai spoils Religious Affairs Minister’s efforts for same day Eid

Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai – a cleric from Masjid Qasim Khan in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa capital – hinted on Tuesday that eye witnesses’ accounts for moon sighting will be considered on Sunday, 28 Shaban and said he cannot promise for the same day Eid and Ramazan across the country.

Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousuf however assured Mufti Popalzai that the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee would not make announcement of moon sighting until evidence from Peshawar are collected.

The minister chaired a meeting of Ulema (clerics) from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who informed him about their grievances with regards to the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

The minister assured them the government would address their grievances and said the government wants Eid and Ramazan to be celebrated on the same day across the country including KP.

Popalzai said the central committee holds no religious authority, adding that he would welcome any evidence of moon sighting even if a meeting for this purpose is not being held.

The influential cleric told Sardar Yousaf that Masjid Qasim Khan would be open to accepting evidence of moon sighting on the 28th of Shabaan, the month preceding Ramazan.

The mosque in Peshawar has been synonymous with the moon sighting dissent for decades.

dont know why he cant see muharram and rabi ul awal moons ahead of the rest of the country.why only ramzan and shawal moons are sighted by this mullah before the other parts of the country. probably mullahs like him, fazal ur rahman, fazal ullah are fulfill the criteria mentioned in hadiths according to which near the end times the worst people beneath the sky on the surface of the earth will be the ulema of islam.
it is the stubborn attitude and poor knowledge of islam of these mullahs and followers that today we are divided into more then 70 sects.

The phases of the moon had been calculated by Islamic scientists may hundred of years ago and it was Islam that provided the knowledge to start the renaissance but today we cannot agree to one day for the whole Muslim world to have roza and eids on the same day.

It has to be witnessed by someone on the ground, therefore each home must have their own witness and then and only then should each household announce to their family that they in that home are now going to start Ramadan or eid. It is a ridiculous state of affairs that instead of unifying under the principle of centralising these things we continue to allow such men to define these things based on their egos and retention of power. everyone likes his own " dairh eent ki masjid". he has made his nuisance in KPK. every year his name is specially displayed over the media that mullah popalzae from masjid qasim has seen the moon while rest of the pakistanis are simply blind. so many people follow him blindly.

Yes everyone should love and respect their own homes and mosques and towns etc. but also respect your own brain too. One of the great things about Islam is the tenet that any good man can lead the prayers, there is no church as such and no popes and cardinals and bishops etc, that each ordinary good man or woman can provide guidance to the path of a good life and redemption. But Islam has now been hijacked by so called priests that behave as they are the direct reps of God on earth and make decrees that have nothing to do with common sense, to do with justice or spiritual enlightenment. They are much more interested in their own domains and power and continue to denigrate our great religion. These men should be shown the door and booted out.

off topic but majority of the ulemas of islam today have their own agenda or they tow a line given to them e.g. why did imam Kaaba visit pak last year? when their diplomatic efforts failed to drag pak into yemen war then they sent cleric to do the job for them. how unfortunate.thank God he failed too .
