Talking to media after inaugurating the awareness campaign of public-friendly police on Murree Expressway on Monday, NH&MP (North Zone) DIG Abbas Hussain Malik said the motorway police had asked the government to provide scanners and bomb defusing equipments, to be installed at all the exit and entry points of all motorways, to better cope with terrorists.
The DIG also informed media that to bridge the gap between public and police, a community-friendly policing had been introduced in NH&MP.
He said with such awareness campaigns police and road users would establish a direct interaction with each other, which might be helpful in understanding each others problems.
Talking about the strict zero tolerance policy without any discrimination the benchmark of Motorway police, he said heavy fines had been imposed on various VVIPs including federal and provincial ministers and top bureaucrats from time to time by NH&MP.
