If i were a general i wont want my soldiers to practice very hard physical tasks because in a war i would rather have them not do what is beyond their physical limits. For example, i wouldnt want a soldier that can lift very heavy stones. In war if a situation demands lifting of very heavy stones, i would skip that task and find some other way around the problem. Because its beyond normal human capacity and army is made of normal folk. But soldiers must be trained for the situation that they face frequently in war. i.e the cutting off of their supply lines. They must be able to function without supplies for a sufficiently long period. They should be able to live and fight hungry and dirty.
