Russia has pledged to supply the Egyptian air force with "Ka-52" helicopters, Egypt wanted to acquire it in 2015, Russia responded to Egypt's desire, and created a distinct copy of it for Egypt called the Nile Crocodile.

The helicopter, which is called by the Russian military "crocodile", is characterized by the ability to maneuver and the possibility of dispensing with the tail fan while continuing to fly at 315 km per hour, and that Egypt contracted to purchase 46 helicopters, 15 of them should begin their mission within the ranks of the Air Force at the end 2017.

A very capable system. Good addition. Though more details are desired.

There are many threads in the Arab defence section about the details..some of them are very comprehensive..

One of the better pics of one of the couple that have been delivered so far.
It has a lot of gadgets on it for sure, forward and rear facing MAWS, RW, EW pods on the wingtips, 3 DIRCMs, EOS 52, 30mm cannon. It also has a pretty good radar, flares, additional forward facing light.

I still can't figure out what that long, black thing is on top of the right rear horizontal stabilizer.

I thought this was going to be the camo scheme. I think a little green in there would look better since it's the Nile Crocodile.

It is packed..like we say.. that is a sensor, I think it is on both stabilizers..BTW I like the camo because if looked at from top, it will melt with the colours of send and rocks of the Egyptian deserts..

I think a total of 30+ will be supplied for both carriers! It's amazing to see that a country like Egypt has gained the power to operate Carrier!

If I'm not mistaken, each carrier can carry up to 16 helos with 6 on the deck at once. 30 is a good number to start with. There's also the issue of having a maritime utility helo as well, but more importantly is a SAR helo needs to be on standby at all times. The Egyptian Navy will need to find a suitable platform to fill that role between the new Gowinds, FREMMs, these 2 Mistrals and even several other frigates. I don't think the Mi-17 would be suitable, but they might have to use it until they do get a dedicated transport/SAR. Since the military operates only 6 Blackhawks (but they are reserved for presidential travel from what I know), the SH-60 Seahawk could fill both roles very nicely, transport and SAR.

But the question now becomes interoperability. If all the com systems that will be fitted to the ships will be Russian along with the attack helos, would an American platform blend in well enough without any issues?

EDIT: Actually, now that I think of it Egypt has a pair of AW-139s. That might be a good choice.
