This is not a Hindu tradition. The Gita doesnt ask for animal sacrifice. Rather it is a superstition of Nepali Hindus.

Actually Sacrifice is a sensitive subject in TN too. Lots of temples in TN (not major ones, but small villages one) like Village Guardian temples do sacrifice. But not buffaloes, and definitely not the scale like in Nepal. Maximum, a temple gets to kill a maximum of 7-10 goats per year. Only during festivals, once in 4 years, major sacrifice take place. But that too in the range of 100-200's. And meat is cooked and distributed freely in organised food gala.

When there are Americans starting wars on false pretexts that have destabilized the greater Middle East and has created more extremist for an American to criticize Muslims is a bit rich. The worst violence right now is partly to be blamed by American foreign policy. The Americans attacking Afghanistan were most of it efforts went to attacking local Afghanis who had no idea about 9-11 and were fighting because they saw a bunch of foreigners on their land and not because of some great ideological reason. Then attacking Iraq on the pretext of nonexistent WMDS. Which has created the monster we see now ISIS.

Hindus oppose cow slaughter in India. On the other hand crops worth lakhs of rupees get destroyed by stray cows every year in Punjab alone resulting in economic loss of poor farmers.
