Lockheed Martin has been awarded a new contract to provide an additional ten upgrade kits for Pakistan Air Force F-16A/B Block 15 fighters

Dave Allport - 30-Jul-2011

LOCKHEED MARTIN was awarded a $42.31 million Foreign Military Sales contract on July 29 through the US Air Force for ten additional Enhanced Modernisation Program kits for Pakistan Air Force (PAF) F-16A/B Block 15 aircraft. The order follows on from a previous $325.485 million deal for 35 F-16A/B Block 15 Mid-Life Update (MLU) kits that was awarded to Lockheed Martin on May 21, 2010. Prior to this, a deal had already been signed on June 29, 2009, with Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) for installation of the kits on these aircraft.
Pakistani defence officials subsequently confirmed on December 10, 2010, that a final agreement had been signed the previous week for the installation work by TAI. Work then commenced around two months later, when the PAF sent the first F-16s to TAI’s facility in Ankara for upgrade. Only the first two or three aircraft are being worked on in Ankara, following which the remaining F-16s are being upgraded locally by TAI personnel in Pakistan.

good news and makes sense - enough PAF engineers are being trained in the US on the 4 a/c sent there for MLU and now TAI will also train our engineers 'in-house' at Kamra for the MLU - very good move by PAF.

it was understood that rest of the 10 aircrafts will be upgraded some point in time.

Now it makes sense. Previously once only 35 upgrade kits were procured it was being rumored that may be only 35 will be upgraded to Blk 40 standards using MLUs. Now it makes a wider sense with 36 block 52 plus 45 block 40 aircrafts. Seems we are heading towards air parity atleast.

time is running very quickly
after 2014-15 usa will never sold its weapons to Pakistan
Pakistan must to purchase more and more weapons as soon as possible

What is the difference in the upgrade? The first 35 are costing $9.28m.plane and the latest 10 are costing $4.23m. Or did the first order include weapons and other necessary support equioment? Maybe training too.

First contract includes weapons and support equipment, up-gradation is same for all aircraft i.e MLU-3 standard.

Don't worry guys If Republican win the political ground, Pakistan will be better off, but it will be tough to deal with Republicans ...they talk business..

Our F-16A/B Blk15 won't be upgraded to Blk40 which is general perception on this forum they will be customized F-16AM/BM MLUs all gadgets will be of Blk 52+ like APG-68v9, JHMCS, EW suite etcs
