There is a concept of 7/8er or seven-eighter in Pakistan Army regarding Military Horses.
Seven-Eighter amounts to 7 ruppees and 8 anay, which was the cost in British era Indian Army to pay as maintenance cost of Horse for an Officer who wishes to have a horse from Military for own riding purposes. Somehow the tradition continued in Pakistan Military also. Therefore, any officer can get a horse named to himself during his service. Horses have numbers in the army, these numbers are engraved on their sides/thighs. So the horse travels with the officers to whichever cantonment he gets posted to. The horse is rarely kept at officers residence, it is usually kept at Military stables of that Cantonment. Food, training etc is paid by the Army and Saees (RVFC deputed soldiers) look after and train the horse if need be. The horse cannot get discharged from Military after officers's retirement to go with retiree officer, since the Horse is drafted by Military.
I think the low cost of 7 Rs and 8 Aanay was not abolished or increased, since officers get to ride horses for free in Military Riding Schools in cantonments dispersed all around Pakistan, and for traditional purposes.
