Incident at Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Chaman

On 30 July 2020, at the Friendship Gate Chaman, Afghan forces opened unprovoked fire on innocent civilians gathered towards Pakistan’s side of the international border. Pakistan troops deployed on the posts were also simultaneously engaged by Afghan posts. Pakistan troops responded to protect our local population and acted only in self-defence. It is reiterated that Pakistan Force did not open fire first and responded in self-defence only.

To de-escalate the situation, the Pakistan side immediately activated both military and diplomatic channels and it was after hectic efforts that the firing was stopped from Afghan side.

It must be noted that the borders with Afghanistan were opened for pedestrian movement and trade, upon the request of the Afghan authorities. Pakistan is undertaking concerted efforts to ensure regulated movement of trade between the two countries, which are being challenged by elements opposed to such regulation. Moreover, due to Eid ul Azha, pedestrians’ move was also allowed. People gathered for this purpose were deliberately targeted by Afghan forces for incomprehensible reasons.

This unfortunate incident resulted in numerous casualties and deliberate/serious damage to State infrastructure on the Pakistan side. There were, reportedly, unfortunate losses on the Afghan side as well. All this could have been avoided if fire had not been initiated from the Afghan side.

Pakistan reiterates its sincere readiness to further enhance fraternal relations with Afghanistan in the interest of peace and stability in the region. We hope our constructive efforts will be reciprocated.

It's a very normal behavior from Afghan side. Pakistan army is well trained and professional while the Afghan side is ragtag untrained army without knowing basic border protocols. Best answer would be one gunship visit for few minutes, all issues resolved. A hothead only understand the language of brutal power.

The Afghan security forces, barring perhaps an extremely small number of their special forces, are little more than a rag-tag, undisciplined militia wearing uniforms.

These kinds of unprovoked actions are pretty much par for the course for these militias and those leading them - with their own country destroyed, they have no qualms about instigating violence with Pakistan to deflect from their own governance and security failures.

Why did we felt the need to activate so called channels? Why couldn't we shut them out with brute strength? Its a bloody shame that for a rag tag militia like the above, we needed those pathetic hectic efforts and could not just light them up and force them into submission. Pathetic!

just few days back we treated these snakes in cmh. that day i was supporting that act but these afghans will never understand the language of peace.

PM Khan and Gen Bajwa should send them mitai as a peace gesture. Constently we only ever here Pak leadership sending love and show emotional feelings towards Afghans while Afghans attack the border on a daily basis. Pakistan all we hear is we want peace, peace, peace.....
