I think the Chinese were kinda wanting to reciprocate wrt the size and importance of the city ....when Xi came to India he visited Ahmedabad , which is like the largest city after Delhi, Mumbai,Kolkata, Chennai , Bengaluru and Hyderabad ...

So maybe the Chinese selected a similarly ranked city of size and importance

Why is Modi running after XI/China and not Trump/Putin? Its like he is chasing XI, why?

Because Modi himself knows he made a big blunder by bringing in couple of armored bulldozers for which he is still repenting, consequent of which India's NSG is at stake and several other things.

China has beefed up its Tibet border and fortified it with military hardware, the same is supposed to be required by India if they have to match China pound for pound. While China is a cash cow, India lacks funds. China would outspend India and remain stronger on its borders vis-a-vis India.

If you would have seen Modi's face last 2 days, he was very tense. China would not relent. 2019 is approaching. We know what is on Modi's mind.

Country doesn't have 'hunger' problem.
In northern India, wheat is the main staple diet. In south India, the staple grain changes to rice, just like yours.

Its not like we exported all our rice and had hunger problem next problem.
