MODI address near Empty UN General Assembly

Do you think this is a great achievement? It is not hard for connected statesman to meet these people.
Why didn't your PM do as such then? What you say is correct but the very fact he's doing it shows what he's all about - attracting investment into India. Your PM cam to the US, made his speech that was clearly intended to help his perilous domestic situation and then left. What good did he do for your nation or its image- squat. Modi on the other hand.......

.
How does this burst my bubble in any way shape or form? A US court has the right to issue a summons to anyone they want (under their own self-entitled laws) that doesn't mean a damn thing and is definitely not assigning guilt to those being issued with summons. In this case it was some, I don't even know what to call them, people with less than rosy view of the Indian state, trying to embarrass India and Modi. And so what? He enjoys full diplomatic immunity and no US court can touch him. It was a publicity stunt simple as that and one that failed really.

Nawaz Sharif was in Madison Square Gardens?? I must have missed him......
He didn't arrange such an event it was organised and entirely funded by the NRIs in the US. And do you really think Nawaz Sharif would have filled out Madison Square Gardens? Or that 30 senior US Congressmen and Senators would have turned up? Dream on.....

30 US Congressman and Senators isn't even a lot, it's a really small amount and most were already there in NYC and asked to come to the event by colleagues and delegations, it wasn't out of any personal love or respect for Modi. You are just such a naive person no wonder you are so star-struck by Modi all the brainwashing you've gone through. It's so funny to read you bragging on the internet like a desperate poser.

Nawaz Sharif met with Pres. Obama in private at the Presidential Suite in the W.A Hotel, enough said and that's quite frankly the only meeting and agenda that truly mattered for him (besides UN Assembly).

These kind of cases are a "crime against humanity". So If India doesnot charge a convicted murderer than International Justice system has the right to put Modi on trial. And UN has the mandate to seek forward.

THIS IS HUMILIATING FOR ANY NATION WHEN, A U.S. federal court ordered the Indian leader to respond within 21 days to allegations outlined in the civil case, which accuses Mr. Modi of crimes against humanity, extrajudicial killings and negligence under the Alien Tort Claims Act and Torture Victim Protection Act. These laws target human rights violations outside the U.S, in this case Indian PM MODI.

The US has precisely zero jurisdiction , I am still waiting for the International Criminal Court in the Hague to take up this matter..... oh wait. You might not have any regard for the Supreme Court in India but more fool you. They are fully independent and respected not just in India but the world.

I'm glad that when reason fails a "Think tank" they resort to personal attacks and slander....

This is officially my last post on this thread. Facts are facts, you're clearly deeply upset to see India's position in the world on the ascendency and are lashing out. I trust you to have a rational mind and see the juxtaposition of the visits of the two PMs (India's and Pakistan's).

Clearly India is nothing but an insignificant, poor, backwards, parasitic, subservient and deprived nation, Obama is only choosing to meet the Indian PM (and no other head of state) out of sheer pity..........:coffee:

Were you there around the restrooms...are you associated with the janitorial staff in UN, you seem to have quite some insight on goings inside the UN....

Live coverage event, do you not have cable?

You are just so star-struck by Modi, you kind of remind me of crazy obsessed fans at music concerts. You are in such love with this man you will worship him and probably do. Maybe one day if you are lucky enough you will get a chance to kiss him.

Leave him.. he doesnt have any clue.. as usual BS ranting of Gujarat riot when he was cleared by Supreme Court of India.. and fact is 85% of population of india voted him to power.. now all 85% are not hindu baniyas by any chance.. fact is people from every community every religion voted him.. fact is Con-gress being in power for 10 years couldn't do sh!t against him. fact is he was choosen as Gujarat CM from 2001 to 2014 even after Gujarat riots..

best advice let them burn..

US has even extradited British citizens from the UK to be sent here and punished.
You clearly have little understanding of international law. Firstly extraction ONLY occurs when there is an extraction treaty in place meaning both sides have to agree on the extradition taking place- do you think India is going to let Modi be extradited? Secondly in these cases those being extradited have been accused of crimes against America. Modi is not accused of any such crimes. These cases of extradition are entirely alien to the situation involving PM Mod and also irrelevant- the highest court in India has cleared him of all wrongdoing and that is good enough for Indians because the Supreme Court is actually respected in India, the very fact you are challenging its findings shows your twisted mentality that has no respect for institutions that are above reproach. Maybe the SC in Pakistan is to be degraded and questioned but not India's.....

Anyway somehow you Pakistanis have managed to degrade this insightful thread into a discussion about Modi being extradited to the US which has not even remotely been considered EVER by ANYONE. You Pakistanis seem to think the only narrative in the world is your one but fail to appreciate that there are many and in fact your narrative is so side-lined no one pays attention to what you have to say anymore about ANYTHING.

I get it though- it really sucks to be a Pakistani these days and India on the ascendency is only rubbing salt into the wounds.....

THIS is officially my last post on this thread, I'm sick of fools.

U.S. Rights Group Files Lawsuit Against Narendra Modi

Federal Court Orders Indian Leader to Respond to Charges Linked to 2002 Religious Riots in Gujarat

View attachment 95725

NEW YORK—A day before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrival in the U.S. Friday, a human rights group filed a lawsuit here asking for punitive damages and compensation from Mr. Modi in connection with deadly religious riots in 2002 in the state of Gujarat when he was chief minister there.

A U.S. federal court ordered the Indian leader to respond within 21 days to allegations outlined in the civil case, which accuses Mr. Modi of crimes against humanity, extrajudicial killings and negligence under the Alien Tort Claims Act and Torture Victim Protection Act. The laws target human rights violations outside the U.S.

A White House official said Friday that as a general rule, sitting heads of government enjoy immunity from lawsuits, suggesting that the order would have no bearing on Mr. Modi's official visit.

The court's directions on Thursday came in response to a complaint by the American Justice Center, a recently formed nonprofit organization concerned with the rights of religious minorities in India, acting on behalf of two alleged victims of the 2002 communal violence.

More than 1,000 people were killed in those riots, most of them Muslims. Mr. Modi was the chief minister of the western state of Gujarat at that time and critics say he didn't do enough to stop the religious violence.

Mr. Modi denies these allegations and an Indian court last year said there wasn't enough evidence to prosecute him.

"This case is a frivolous and malicious attempt to distract attention from the visit of the prime minister," said Syed Akbaruddin, an Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman, who added, "the allegations in the case are baseless."

The national spokesman of Mr. Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, Bijay Sonkar Shastri, said the timing of the summons was unfortunate and U.S. courts should have referred to Indian courts first as they have already ruled on this issue.

"It is very surprising the U.S. court has done something like this especially at a time when the two countries are entering a new phase of ties," Mr. Shastri said. "The issue has been buried in India and the people of India gave their verdict by choosing Mr. Modi as their prime minister."

The complaint filed Thursday accused Mr. Modi of initiating and condoning the 2002 violence. It details losses suffered by two alleged victims—a woman whose name hasn't been disclosed in the complaint and a man named Asif—who both allege they lost family members in the riots.

The case is unlikely to have major legal consequences for Mr. Modi, who he will be back in India well before the 21-day period for a response elapses. Still, it is an awkward start to his visit given Mr. Modi's fraught history with the U.S., which revoked his visa in 2005 and prevented him from traveling to the U.S. for nearly a decade because of allegations surrounding the Gujarat violence.

The Obama administration initiated a thaw in relations with Mr. Modi early this year, when it became clear he was the front-runner to be India's next prime minister. Both sides say they have put the visa issue behind them and are looking to use Mr. Modi's visit to build trust and stronger relations.

Mr. Modi is scheduled to meet prominent U.S. political and business figures in New York and Washington, D.C. over a five-day visit, addressing a sellout crowd of the Indian diaspora at the Madison Square Garden on Sunday and holding two meetings next week with Mr. Obama. But he will also face protests by those who blame him for the 2002 violence and see him as a hard-line Hindu nationalist.

Gurpatwant Pannun, the lawyer for the group that has brought the U.S. case, is among Mr. Modi's critics. Mr. Pannun said he is a part of a group called "Sikhs for Justice" that will indict Mr. Modi at a "citizens' court" outside the White House next week when he meets Mr. Obama.

I'm glad Nawaz Sharif didn't put on a show and go to Madison Square Garden, a real leader doesn't need to do those things to show his presence. Only heads of states who have an inferiority complex do so, shows his real insecurities.

What would Nawaz tell such a big crowd (that is if Pakistan can ever gather such a crown unfortunately). Unlike Modi, Nawaz can't talk about the economy as its stalled by the Political Unrest by IK, he can't discuss projects as those are already behind, including the IMF loan payments.......so his "show" would be limited to like three lines " Hi, I am NS, I am the elected premier of Pakistan. Unfortunately, I can't talk about the economy as there is a mob of 10K people who thinks the elected government should be removed by violence and force and they've captured my capital, so with that, I have nothing more to add. Thank you for coming"??

AFA Modi is concerned, in the history of the US, this guy got a bigger gathering than anyone else. That speaks volumes actually and it is an achievement.

There's plenty of positive developments to discuss, but don't bring up a hypothetical into this, what NS would have said, or should have said, etc.
