Sena is fighting for Marathi
film industry since long:
Uddhav Thackeray

Close on the heels of the MNS
demanding prime time slots for
Marathi movies in theatres, the
Shiv Sena today claimed that the
party has been fighting for the
cause since long by filing a
petition seeking compulsory 500
shows for movies in the language.
"Maharashtra Cine and Television
Sena, has been fighting in the
court since last three months
demanding compulsory 500
shows of Marathi movies every
year," Sena executive president
Uddhav Thackeray said in the
party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.
The decision in this regard is
expected by tomorrow, he said.
"Sena is strongly behind the
producers of Marathi films. The
matter would not be solved only
by publicity but we need to fight it
out at the judicial level," Uddhav
said taking a dig at his estranged
cousin and MNS chief Raj
Thackeray.
In June, the Bombay high court
had ruled that single screen
theatres in Greater Mumbai would
have to temporarily screen at least
44 shows of Marathi films every
year, against the minimum of 112
shows a year rule as per a
resolution of the Maharashtra
government, until a final decision
in this regard is taken.
"The government could not
properly explain the court about
Marathi movies and therefore the
compulsory shows which were
112 earlier had been reduced to
44," Uddhav alleged and added
that the Sena was demanding
more shows.
Raj had warned multiplex owners
to exhibit Marathi movies
at prime time slots last week and
also held a meeting with
Marathi film producers yesterday.
MNS workers had held protests in
the city, neighbouring Thane and
Aurangabad districts in this
regard.
Highlighting efforts by other states
to promote the local language,
Uddhav said the Malayalam film
industry enjoyed the backing of
the Kerala government despite a
major percentage of its movies
failing to click at the box-office.
"In 2001, 70 Malayalam movies
were released of which only 10
managed to do well at the box
office. Despite losses of Rs 100
crore to the Malayalam film
industry, their state government
was still in favour of the regional
films and theatre owners were
forced to show the movies," he
said.
There are 1600 theatres in
Maharashtra of which 500 are
available for Marathi movies. In
the running year, about 100
Marathi movies are expected to
be released and the industry
budget is of Rs 150 to 175 crore,
Uddhav said.
But the state government's
contribution is only Rs eight to
nine crore, he added.
Uddhav said the Sena will also
demand concession in theatre
rent for Marathi movies, as given
to Hindi films

500 films in Marathi every year? What's figure for Hindi films?

India sure makes a lot of movies. Mainland China made about 450 movies in entire 2009. I think we needs to import more Indian and Japanese films, too much Hollywood SFX demos and South Korean tear-jerkers here nowadays.

.
I think Theater owners should give the theaters for fixed rental to MNS and party.let them taste their own medicine.

.
this move will just boomerang on them.

The same method was followed in Karnataka for saving the Kannada Movie industry which was overtaken badly by the Tamil and Telugu film industries.

Now most of the cinema halls which were subjected to it are closed down or on the verge of closing down to make way for malls and shopping complexes.

The film industries must compete with each other on their own merit.

Most of the mainstream bollywood Indian movies ain't popular in China as they for a third world audience and culture centric, based on the responses on yoku.

ontopic
Good as long as they ain't mainstream bollywood themed. We need to diversify our film industry.

.
Sorry all, it's not 500 movies but ''500 shows ''. Now i corrected it.

NOWADAYS THERE ARE EXCELLENT MARATHI MOVIES REALEASING.
SOME OF THEM HAVE MADE THEIR IMPRESSIONS UPTO OSCAR.
MARATHI MOVIES ARE DIFFERENT FROM OTHER REGIONAL MOVIES.
IF U CAN GET THEM DO WATCH.
I CAN RECOMMEND ALL PDF MEMBERS TO WATCH MOVIES LIKE SHWAAS,NATARANG,GABHRICHA PAUS,HARISHCHANDRACHI FACTORY.
HAAPUS.
I THINK EVERY THEATRE IN ANY STATE SHOULD SHOW THE REGIONAL MOVIES BESIDE HOLLYWOOD AND BOLLYWOD MOVIES.

.
is it really a test of goodness...for a movie to go for an award.....alot of good movies do not rech there but still they are good...what do u think......

SIR,THERE MAY BE SOME EXCEPTIONS.
BUT GENERALLY IF A MOVIE IS NOMINATED FOR AN AWARD THEN IT SHOULD BE GOOD.

You're right, we should import more movies for the Chinese audience.

That said, we have LOADS of Indian and Japanese movies here in Hong Kong. They are really good.

First things first: CAPS OFF!!

I do enjoy watching those Marathi films which make it to the international awards/film festivals. However, those are not the kind of films that draw crowds, least of which are the weekend crowds. Such movies are normally not screened at movie theaters.

Dont get me started on the quality of regional movies. As Gounder said previously, when goons in Karnataka forced the owners to play Kannada movies, believe me you for I have seen many of them- most are utter crap, theater owners converted their halls to malls!

Those MNS/SS guys should be disbanded or forcibly made to clean up Mumbai with brooms! Thats all they are good for. Morons.

.
Kerala,Malayalam movie Industry is also going the same fate what Kannada movies faced/facing.Tamil,Hindi movies are pulling crowd.each and every Malayalam Movie is release-flop .I feel many of the people stopped visiting theatres/multiplexes these days .

Except a few directors and writers nobody makes good movies now in Malayalam. At the same time in tamil some good movies are happening.in bollywood also realistic movies are coming up.

FIRST OF ALL I LOVE TO WRITE IN CAPS ON COZ IT LOOKS GOOD TO ME.

SIR HAVE YOU SEEN ANY OF THE MOVIES THAT I HAVE MENTIONED IN PREVIOUS POSTS?
I YOU HAD WATCHED THEN YOU WOULD NEVER SAID THAT.

Dont get me started on the quality of regional movies. As Gounder said previously, when goons in Karnataka forced the owners to play Kannada movies, believe me you for I have seen many of them- most are utter crap, theater owners converted their halls to malls

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MARATHI MOVIES.
THE GOLDEN ERA OF MARATHI MOVIES IS COMING BACK.
MARATHI MOVIES ARE NOT AS SAME AS JUST C**P FIGHTING MOVIES OR LOVERBIRDS' MOVIES WHERE HERO CAN BEAT 1000S OF GOONS SINGLE HANDED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.
NO OFFENCE BUT I HAVE SEEN SOME PROMOS OF S**T MOVIES WHERE HERO CAN PRODUCE TORNADO BY MOVING HIS LEGS ROUND AND ROUND AND ALL GOONS ARE CARRIED AWAY BY THAT TORNADO.
MARATHI MOVIES ARE WAY BETTER THAN THESE KIND OF MOVIES.

Those MNS/SS guys should be disbanded or forcibly made to clean up Mumbai with brooms! Thats all they are good for. Morons.

WE ARE DISCUSSING ABOUT MARATHI MOVIES. OK
THANXXX

.
Mods please ban above stupid wannabe Marathi Manoos.

On Topic - I support MNS, their method is wrong, Intentions are good. Why Punjab and Maharashtra should suffer ? Crime rates, unemployment, poverty is increasing due to these migrant UP/Bihari people. Its fault of their leaders, Maya/Lalu/Paswan/Nitish are responsible.
