If the Janes article is correct and they plan some thing the size of Grippen why would you want to put 2 120kN engines in it, other than to see them both go past the cockpit when you hit the afterburner?

Personaly I too doubt japan's idea. Not because they don't have the money or skill. It's more like their politic will. F-2 also had big plan,but finish way "normal" then it could have been. US has them by their "nuts"

Indigenous high thrust engines takes long time tests to prove their credibility.China is still in developing face of their 80+kn WS-13 engine.
IMO there is long way for China to make their indigenous 120+kn engine success,that's why they are requested for 117S Engines from Russia.
