mistranslations in media about Iran

This is not an important thread.
But since yesterday i was reading someone in this forum making fun about the fact we criticize the mistranslations , I just wanted to say that sadly there is a big problem of mistranslations in the media in western countries.

First i put in farsi a text published by an Iranian who was making fun of some translations then i just summarize a little bit. Already the msot famous words of Khomeiny about Israel who will disappear because of injustice , that was translated many times by Israel will be attacked by Iran. The words of Ahmadinejad about homosexuals and so many others that some media used .
Sadly there were some terrible words against the people of Iran: these ones the media here don't care. They prefer show an hatreful Iran towards the values of West.

گاهي مسئولان كشور فراموش مي*كنند كه در عرصه بين*الملل بايستي به گونه*اي سخن بگويند كه افراد با فرهنگ*ها و زبان*هاي مختلف متوجّه منظور آنها شوند. در زير نمونه*هايي واقعي از ترجمه سخنان رييس جمهور و رييس مجلس در رسانه*هاي خارجي آمده است.



آقاي احمدي*نژاد



جمله آقاي احمدي نژاد به فارسي چنين بود: «غرب دست از بچه بازي بردارد و با دُم شير بازي نكند!»


لوماتن سخن رييس جمهور را چنين نقل كرد: « احمدي نژاد گفت كه غرب دست از لجاجت و تجاوز به كودكان بردارد و با شيرها بازي نكند»

نشريه اسپانيايي ال پاييس نيز نوشت: «رييس جمهور ايران غرب را متهم به كودك آزاري كرد و گفت كه شوراي امنيت نبايد با شيرها بازي كند»

نشريه لا كرودونياي ايتاليا نيز نوشت: «احمدي نژاد به غربي*ها هشدار داد كه نبايد با لجبازي به كودكان تجاوز كنند و شيرها را بكشند»



آقاي لاريجاني


جمله علي لاريجاني: با نشان دادن « لولو» ي شوراي امنيت، مردم ايران رو به قبله نمي*شوند.


ترجمه روزنامه نيوزويك: علي لاريجاني گفته است كه اگر شوراي امنيت مثل موجوداتي كه بچه*ها را مي*ترسانند ظاهر شود، مردم ايران به سوي قبله مسلمانان جهان دراز نمي*كشند.

ترجمه نشريه اسپانيايي ال پاييس: علي لاريجاني گفت كه اگر شوراي امنيت چيز ترسناكي را هم به ايرانيان نشان دهد، باز هم مردم ايران به سوي عربستان سعودي نمي*خوابند.

ترجمه نشريه فرانسوي اومانيته: علي لاريجاني گفت كه دراز كشيدن ايرانيان به سوي مركز اعتقادات مسلمانان بستگي به اين دارد كه آنها از موجودات
افسانه*اي بترسند، اين يك داستان ايراني است

Ahmadinejad words saying Europeans act like children were translated by "Europeans are pedophilia" because they don't know that the words can be used for both meaning but of course it depends on the all sentence and sense.

Larijani words about Iran : if you translate word by word is [the threaten of europeans] will "not make use sleep/lie in the direction f the Mecca" but this is an expression that means "die" because when we die we put the direction of our body in the direction of body so saying lie in the direction of Mecca means die ... the problem is the europeans newspapers translate it as (don't laugh):
1/ Iranians won't sleep anymore in the direction of Mecca
2/ Iranians won't sleep anymore in the direction of KSA

I wonder: who is doing the translations? no iranians it seems

I think Iranian officials deliberately use complex sentences rich with cultural anecdotes when they want to say something to Iranians but do not want the west understand fully the context. It is for their internal politics. As for western media they want to show Iranians as nuts and Iranian leaders as Qaddafi, Kim and Saddam as to demonize Iran and make an option of war with Iran more tasty for and acceptable for western public.
