wanted to learn about the country, so did generic search for Nepal and this came up. only skimmed through it, but ladies over there are very gracious and beautiful. seems like they have the best features from south asia and east asia, a perfect blend

its also nice that such a competition has women dressed somewhat modestly, relatively speaking. no swim suit parading or other nonsense. might be mistaken, but it gives the notion that Nepal is fairly conservative in this regard and sticks to its traditions, rather than falling over themselves to imitate western culture (take a hint, other south asians).

edit: can hindi speaking members here understand what was being said in Nepali? for a north indian not versed in gurkha or north eastern languages, is it mutually intelligible to the extent that you can carry out basic conversation? thanks in advance.

Nepali language belongs to the same family as hindi and other north Indian languages.. in north east, only bengoli and assamese belong to that family, rest are different so it is equally difficult for us to comprehend as it is for you. However we have lot of small pockets of nepali speaking communities here in N.E and so other natives living among and nearby can understand them and vice versa..

very few words I could gather, most likely Sanskrit origin which are common to punjabi/urdu. but the rest of it was greek. similar to how much of spoken kurdish or morrocan one would understand. thanks for the reply.

if you speak urdu then you will learn nepali easily.
like they pronounce chai(tea) as cheaa.
chini(sugar) is same as in urdu.
chawal(rice) chamar or chawar.
see it's almost like hindi and urdu

btw thousands of nepali students come to indian for bachelors and masters degree

like they pronounce chai(tea) as cheaa.
chini(sugar) is same as in urdu.
chawal(rice) chamar or chawar.
see it's almost like hindi and urdu

I have seen plenty of Indians seeking work in Nepal and Bhutan. We are also employing thousands in addition to about 1 mlln Indian illegals.

actually if you say chamar and chamal real fast they will sound same.

Dont talk out of your hat, give some credible sources. Otherwise there are 8 million Martians in Dacca by DGFI count.

I remember 2 things from Nepali. Many things are similar to Hindi but in place of "V" they write "Bh" so "Video" is written and spoken as "Bhideo". Another observation was "Kukkur Dekho Hoshiyar" in place of "Kutto se Savadhan". But one thing is sure, Nepal is beautiful and Nepalese are very good by heart. I loved my trip to Nepal from Kathmandu to Pokhra and will visit again in future.
