A baby boy bearing two heads has been born in India and has been described as a 'miracle' by doctors.

The baby boy was born on Monday morning local time to his 20-year-old mother at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, in Ajmer, Rajasthan, in northern India, and weighed about 2.5 kilograms (5lbs 7oz).

Dr Jaiprakash Narayan, an assistant professor of the paediatric medicine department, said everyone who heard about the miracle birth wanted to catch a glimpse of the remarkable baby.

How many of Such babies are able to survive ?

. .
This is not a miracle but in medical term we call it Craniopagus parasiticus which means "an extremely rare type of parasitic twinning occurring in about 4 to 6 of 10,000,000 births. In craniopagus parasiticus, a parasitic twin head with an undeveloped body .... In addition to craniopagus parasiticus, a few other conditions involve a child's, or animal's, birth with two heads or faces."

.
Zero.

Have you seen any two-headed people walking around?

Poor child.

Wasn't their 2 sisters with their heads joined who voted in 2014 election .

Oh ! To be precise , how many babies survive with such kinds of defects like multiple limbs
( Without removing such parts )

I have seen a calf with 2 mouths and an extra leg on the body . It looked gross but I am not sure if it was giving the calf pain . Calf was healthy by looks and may be a year old .

:undecided:

Being a Medical professional I came across two times children suffering from this rare condition first time Children was too small and surgeon tries to remove on infectious head but success rate is very less both died and the second time two boys who are 10 years old visited me 3 years back and both head are fine and all senses are working Just one brother have only head and what he told me He wants to die.
A very painful life for that children and awful experience for me.

Note: I am Anesthesiologist (StR/SpR) working with a surgeon.

A year back there was a article that talked about how in Russia , Doctors are going to put head of a man from a deformed body to a healthy body . What happened to that ?

Suppose if a baby has multiple limbs , When that baby grows up , are those additional limbs functional ?

Head transplant is still in early stages because many countries even not allows for research it is all about ethics because who will ensure that the brain dead person's body will use according to what he or she may wants.
Russians are doing such experiments and unfortunately very little access and info they are sharing with outside.
Interesting Video.

As per Russian two volunteers participated in full head transplant and it was a success but we can't verify it.

Those girls Abby and brittney I guess. they had dicephalic parapagus and they were cojoined twins. Mean they were twins but couldn't separated later in womb. Most of such cases are due to cojoined twins.

The defect is Polymelia in which a person is born with extra limbs and mostly its also due to cojoined twins. Or sometimes defected genes are inherited resulting in polydactyly (persons having 6 fingers) etc..
Sometimes the limbs are removed as extra leg etc because its mostly deformed. But sometimes not..

Popular opinion:
Popular opinion about potential head transplantation has been generally negative, despite Italian neurosurgeon Sergio Canavero's claims in early 2015 that he will be able to perform a successful head transplant, complete with a functional patient by 2017. These claims against Canavero do not take a moral or ethical stance, but rather focus on the state of technology and the timeframe in which Canavero says he will be able to successfully conduct the procedure.

Robert J. White, the scientist who transplanted the monkey's head, became a leading target for protestors. One interrupted a banquet in his honor by offering him a bloody replica of a human head. Others called his house asking for "Dr. Butcher". When White testified in a civil hearing about Dr. Sam Sheppard's murder case, lawyer Terry Gilbert compared Dr. White to Dr. Frankenstein.[18] The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals described White's experiments as "epitomizing the crude, cruel vivisection industry".

In 1988, Dr. Jerry Silver, an expert in regrowing severed nerves, stated "I think it [head transplant] is fairly barbaric at this point. I do not even see that 100 years from now it is a possibility. If anybody did that today, it would be absolutely horrible. Can you imagine looking around the room, and you're just a head?"

The above case we are discussing is probably Parasitic Twin babies.

Parasitic twin head or Craniopagus parasiticus

Polymelia is a condition when a child born with extra limbs not with complete extra head.

Some scholars in ancient times have reported such things in their books which was obviously looked as fantasy but if we take that into consideration , such phenomena has been happening since antiquity and there must be other major reasons behind them .

Genetic anomally, no miracle!
May be but mostly during early pregnancy and problem with multiple fertile embryos which multiplied but fails to develop separately due to several factors.

There is no supernatural or mythical about this because in early ages even now days rural areas of Punjab both side of the border call these type of birth defects balaa means monster birth and often kills the child.

Those who survives often ended in working circus and people treated them as object or animals.

NO NO ! That is not what I meant .

What I meant ? There was fresh air , Fresh water , no radiation and chemicals in Food , water and Air yet their were abnormal births . In other words if its genetic , what may have caused it in the first place ?

As I told you there are many other factors and probably a gynecologist makes you understand more precisely but what I study is that I early stages of fertile egg some thing went wrong due to many known and unknown factors that cell splits into two but fails to separate properly.
