Pakistani Water and Electricity Minister Khawja Asif announced that his country plans to increase its import of electricity from Iran.
We are going to increase electricity imports from Iran by 1,000 megawatts, the Pakistani water and electricity minister said. Pakistan is one of importers of electricity from Iran since 2002. The latest contract between Irans Tavanir and Pakistan expired in 2013 and Pakistani officials said that Tavanir Company has agreed with one-year extension of the contract.
Pakistan is facing acute energy shortage, specially electricity and the Pakistani people, including people of Islamabad, during daytime, especially during summer are facing blackouts so that sometimes they only have electricity for four hours.
The Pakistani government has recently signed contracts with China to construct several power plants, but it is not known yet that at what time these contract will take effect.
