New Delhi: Kashmir interlocutors Dileep Padgaonkar, Radha Kumar and M M Ansari waded into fresh controversy after they announced on TV that militants were interested in presenting a "peace plan" to them on their next visit.
Padgaonkar told a TV channel, "One of the guys (from a terrorist organization) ...said to us they would like to submit a peace plan also to us."
This was refuted immediately by Ayaz Akbar, the Hurriyat spokesman representing Syed Ali Shah Geelani. He said the people the interlocutors had met were common criminals or surrendered militants and hence not credible.
The person asked the group whether they would be prepared to wait for a few days because they too wanted their voice to be heard. "They believed they had a roadmap etc. So we said we have come to listen to you. We're quite prepared. As and when you prepare your point of view, let us know and we'll examine that as well," he said.
However, Hurriyat spokesperson Ayaz Akbar denied this, saying, "The official interlocutors would have access to surrendered militants only or ordinary criminals undergoing sentence in jail on murder charges and want to get out of jail by presenting themselves as militants."
