Breaking News:Militants use HIV to fight UK troops in Afghanistan - UK - World - The Times of India

LONDON: In tactics that’s sure to pass as “dirty war”, the Taliban is using hidden needles to infect British troops with HIV.

Hypodermic syringes are hidden below the surface pointing upwards to prick bomb squad experts as they hunt for devices, British newspaper the Sun reveals. The heroin needles are feared to be contaminated with hepatitis and HIV. And if the bomb goes off, the needles become deadly flying shrapnel.

The tactic has been used in the Afghan badlands of Helmand, and was exposed by Tory MP and ex-Army officer Patrick Mercer.

Conservative MP Patrick Mercer, a former army officer, exposed the tactic. “Are there no depths to which these people will stoop?” the Sun quoted him as saying. “This is the definition of a dirty war.”

Not only syringes but razor blades are also being buried as the Taliban use increasingly “despicable” tactics.
Protective Kevlar gloves have been issued to all Royal Engineer and Royal Logistic Corps bomb search teams.

Lieutenant Colonel David Southall, Commanding Officer of the Counter-IED Task Force said: “Improvised explosive devices remain a tactic of desperation and last resort.

“The Taliban know they can’t take us on and win in a conventional toe-to-toe fight – whilst they resort to some pretty despicable IED emplacement tactics,” he added.

Cowards !!!!!!!!!!! Dont these guys have conscience

I think they are giving too much credit to them , as there is no shortage of drug users in that region and needles are normally every where

If this is true the Talibans are more creative than I think. This is like biological warfare, or actually more psychological component than actual effectiveness as a weapon.

Actually when I read the title I was thinking more in terms of forced prostitutes and the fact that most troops guarding bases probably havn't seen women for a long time.

It's most likely a psychological weapon more than anything, because HIV and hepatitis are chronic diseases that does not kill immediately, thus useless as the main goal of Taliban is to reduce Nato manpower and cause immediate distruction/disruption wherever and whenever possible.

Underhand, yes, but war is brutal

US and her Nato Allies feel perfectly civilized when the carpet bomb the country killing civilians in hundreds of thousands and then expect to be greeted with flowers?

This Tory MP must have been very high on the Afghan opium that he went to sample in Afghanistan.

HIV infection is highly unlikely since virus it self remains live only for 1 or two minute after contact with air and atmosphere
yep, HIV does not survive in normal atmosphere hence it is largely transffered via sex and blood transfusion only unlike Hepatitis.

The same thing is happening in pakistan, havent we seen many dead by the fire power of Pak army? it is the taliban to be blamed and nobody else. they make people's houses the battlefield and it is the civilians who suffer.

Indian media always lie to create hype......or just to earn money

Yeah, I heard this news that people are keeping needle with them with HIV infection and are using them in crowed to spread HIV. But it was later found that HIV virus cannot live for long.

I think the needles carry naswar, an effective weapon.

My Chawwanni!!

Ya,it is true that HIV virus can't live outside the host for more than an hour, but in certain conditions like fluid etc in needles can help them to survive up to 2-3 days.

But the hepatitis virus like hepatitis A which is very hardy can live outside for months....
hepatitis B(HBV) & hepatitis C (HCV) can also live outside ranging from some days to a week.

^ Welcome to guerrilla war.

English said: Everything is fair in love and war .

I think same theory is being applied against them now.

By the same theory what if UK will use biological weapons, napalm bombs against Militants ?????????, as you said everything is fair in war!!!
