Militants trying to enter Peshawar in guise of flood victims: Report

Taking advantage of the internal mass migration of people in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province due to heavy flooding, militants are reportedly trying to enter Peshawar and other districts of the province.

According to the Nation, amid reports of movement of militants in the guise of flood victims, the law enforcement agencies have alerted the provincial government, while stressing for the need for taking measures to strengthen security in the region.

In the report sent to KP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan, the law enforcement authorities have directed his government to register all those people who are migrating into the province.

Even though six days have passed since the devastating floods hit KP, thousands of people are still suffering due to food, shelter and drinking water crisis.

The death toll has risen to 1,300, with waterborne diseases adding to the misery of the people.

The UN has estimated that some one million people have been affected by the floods, but only a few hundreds have received relief from the government and the remaining are in need of immediate assistance.

Swat, Shangla, Charsadda and Nowshera districts were the worst-hit areas, where thousands of people were marooned in flooded villages, and needed immediate evacuation and food supply.

^ NADRA is already working with NDMA and PDMAs to ensure this does not happen. Furthermore many of the NGOs and aid camps have been encouraged to use Verisys and ID-V verification tools.

Sadly in these desperate times there always are some vultures trying to take advantage of the helpless people... In a talk show i heard someone was selling 1 ROTI for rs. 25 .... Are they not militants..??

This border needs to be sealed except for economic traffic. I think even refugees should be turned back unless they need political asylum.

Yes this disaster profiteering happens every time. I remember well during the 2005 earthquake, Kafan "White Burial Shroud", which usually never sold for more than a few hundred was going for 1500-2000 rupees.

Disgusting profiteering and no fear of the afterlife or even so much as an ounce of human dignity in the lot of them.
