Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- An 8 year-old boy was hanged by militants in Afghanistan's Helmand province after the boy's father -- a police officer in the southern city of Gereshk -- refused to comply with militants' demands to provide them with a police vehicle, officials said.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the hanging, saying "this action is not permitted in any culture or any religions," according to a statement Sunday, which provided details of the incident.
Karzai said he has ordered local authorities to root out the militants and arrest them "as soon as possible."
The boy was kidnapped Friday. It was unclear when he was killed.
The incident comes amid a recent wave of attacks on local officials who are considered anti-Taliban. Less than two weeks ago, Ahmed Wali Karzai, Karzai's half-brother and a provincial council chief in neighboring Kandahar, was killed in his home by a longtime bodyguard.
Elsewhere on Sunday, formal ceremonies marking the handover of security to Afghan forces took place in Kabul and Panjshir province.
They are the fifth and sixth areas to be transferred to national forces.
Last week, the capital of Helmand province -- Lashkar Gah -- was transferred to local control as NATO begins a drawdown of troops.
The area was a scene of heavy fighting and stiff resistance last year as a coalition "surge" swept southward in an effort to drive Taliban forces from their traditional heartland.

May rest in peace . very very sad incident

Bloody terrorist .... hope they rot in hell...and all those who support them.

Did we not witness reports of the Taliban hanging another 7 year old last year? Do they not use intimidation against the innocent Afghans and Pakistanis? What else can we expect from ruthless killers and cowards… Kidnapping a young child to force the parents to bow to their demands?

Our condolences go out to the brave parents of this young child how would not adhere to the demands of the wicked Taliban. Our sympathies are with the police officer who refused to hand over the official police vehicle to the Taliban goons (who would use it to kill many) and paid the ultimate price with the life of his 8 year old son.

How ruthless can you be to kill an eight years old…And many call them mujahidin. The mujahid is the father who lost his son to save many!

I call on all who think Taliban are any good to change their way and join in to condemn them… Peace can only return when these ruthless killers are either eliminated or brought to justice.

Very sad. A slap on the face of anyone who believes in the "Good Taliban, Bad Taliban" theory........anything remotely associated with the Taliban is nothing but evil.

These are the type of action that brings a bad name and revulsion.

And they claim to be Talibs and pursuing the Islamic cause!

Is this what is taught to qualify them to be Talibs in the Saudi funded madrassas?

I wonder how many sane people will support these type of action or their philosophy.

Disgusting cowards. That is what these so-called mujahideen are. If they think that this is how they are pleasing that supreme power, they are so wrong. These barbarians should be tied in front of artillery guns and blown up for committing such a horror. 8 yrs old!! WTH could this innocent kid have done so bad?

Their are several groups of criminals pursuing their motives under the name tag of Taliban. I am no in favor of Taliban but better understanding of situation is always useful.

This type of ideas give them strength.

It is time to recognise that there is no justification for such acts.

If criminals are using the cover of the word 'Taliban', then the Taliban should first ensure that such gangs are wiped out and the Islamic society that feels that criminals are using the Taliban cover should mount pressure through newspapers, educate people and run a campaign through their Mosques.

Failing which, it means a tactic approval.

Ooohhh, so eevvil! :D So, they think they are so badass by doing that huh?

Well, they'll have to answer to the Almighty some day.

I am sure the kid is some place much, much better. RIP kiddo
