KHUZDAR, Pakistan (AP) A Pakistani official says militants have fired rockets at a government helicopter flying over the region struck by a massive earthquake this week. The projectiles missed the target and the aircraft was unharmed.
Abdur Rasheed, deputy commissioner for Awaran district, says the helicopter targeted on Thursday was carrying the head of the country's National Disaster Management Authority, a Pakistani Army general in charge of relief operations and other officials.
The attack underscores the dangers facing relief work following Tuesday's magnitude 7.7 quake entered in Awaran district of Baluchistan province.
Separatists in the province have been battling the Pakistani military for years and often attack troops or symbols of the state such as infrastructure.
