Militants attack NC leader, trooper killed

A Central Reserve Police Force trooper was killed while as another was injured when suspected militants attacked a ruling National Conference leader in south Kashmir’s Shopain district, today.

Initial reports said that two CRPF trooper who were a part of security cover for the National Conference MLC Showkat Ahmad Ganai were injured when gunmen attacked their vehicle at Awneera area of the district.

Sources, however, confirmed that one trooper Raja Ram of 14 Battalion succumbed to his injuries.

The gunmen were riding a motorbike and fired indiscriminately on the vehicle before escaping.

The attack came within hours after militants gunned down a policeman in Bejbehara. Awneera is part of the same belt and is around 6 kms from Bejbehara.

The village was under a cordon and a massive manhunt had been launched to nab the militants when this report was filed.

I wish we could say the PA colonel and captain slain a few days ago in Pakistani administered kashmir were killed by IA somehow. But that's not true. They were killed by religious Pakistani civilians.
