The Mil Mi-35MS is a special military command, control and communication helicopter for VIP flights. It was developed for the Russian military command. The Mi-35MS is a modified version of the Mi-35M gunship (Western reporting name Hind-E). The first operable Mi-35MS was spotted in 2013. In 2014 it was reported that three Mi-35MS flying command posts will be built. However this helicopter gained media attention only in 2015-2016.

There are already Mi-8MTV helicopters configured for the VIP role in Russia. Russian President regularly flies on one. High ranking Russian Ministry of Defense officials use similar helicopters in the field. Some of these VIP helicopters have enhanced command and control capabilities. However the new Mi-35MS is much faster. The Mi-8MTV has a maximum speed of 230-250 km/h, while the Mi-35MS helicopter has a maximum speed of 335 km/h. The new helicopter can be seen as flying limo for the Russian military VIPs.

The Mi-35MS is fitted with two Klimov VK-2500 engines, developing 2 466 shp each. It uses main rotor system of the Mi-28 gunship. Rotor blades are made of composite materials with titanium components. This helicopter also has got improved avionics and digital equipment, including night vision system.

The Mi-35MS flying command post carries no armament. It retains the stub wings, where missiles and rocket pods are usually hung. Instead on these wings it reportedly carries auxiliary fuel tanks for extended range. However these might also be pods with various electronic equipment, rather than fuel tanks. The Mi-35MS carries missile approach warning sensors. This VIP helicopter reportedly carries self-protection system against anti-aircraft missiles with infra-red guidance. The chin-mounted cannon was replaced by a radar fairing.

Cockpit and vital components of this helicopter are significantly armored.

This VIP helicopter is packed with sensors, such as radars, night flight system GLONASS/GPS navigation system, satellite communication station, special jam-proof communication equipment. There are multiple antennas over the tail boom.

The Mi-35MS is operated by pilot and co-pilot. The helicopter has a luxury interior and can accommodate only around 4-5 passengers due to its small size. The passenger compartment has new rectangular-shaped windows.

Unlike its predecessor, the Mi-24, this helicopter has a non-retractable landing gear. This feature allowed to reduce the weight. Also in case of the crash or hard landing, the landing gear absorbs some of the energy.

The Mi-35MS helicopters are painted in unusual solid green color and do not have any military insignias, except for the Russian flag. These helicopters have been spotted landing in the Moscow Kremlin, which serves as an official residence of the Russian president, as well as landing in the Russian Ministry of Defense and other governmental headquarters.

Another reason why Vladmir Putin is so bad ***. :-)

Marine One used by US president seems really lame in front of this.
