Mexico is top destination for India’s automobile exports

It is your choice when you have to leave the forum for some reason...But not mine. At least for a moment, just feel pride and ownership of what BD can do and can not do...It looks silly when you try to take credit of someone else's effort....
Anyway, there are different ways to ask a genuine question than using words that does not show right spirit.
Where did I try to take credit of someone else's effort? I am generally very anti-nationalist and individualist in my approach..I do not take any pride on anything that individuals in BD achieve...as long as I personally have no contribution to something I find it silly to take pride in it...I certainly respect the PEOPLE who achieve great things...but I don't take pride in it.
Now show me where I took credit of others efforts.

Hence why the govt should step in with setting standards. Consumerism on the bottom dollar leads to market failure in this case.

This is not like taxing countless paan wallahs....car standards are very easy to enforce given the way they are produced and certified.
there maybe a politician-industrialist nexus at play here, nor very different that our pakistani brethren complain about.
Factory installed abs n at least 2 airbags (at front) can save the passengers from impossible situations, coupled with seatbelts. this extra measure wont cost more than 50k overall on the otr. but we indians are content with the ac and music system.
no use blaming govts. we ourselves have no care about our own safety, why wud govt poke their noses in. they have more important works such as inciting riots n win elections.

india made Vento cars are in great demand in mexico, while the new beetle being sold in india is manufactured in mexico; imported by india as completely knocked down units.

I don't think they will adopt them unless they see a big opportunity to enter the US market...adopting US standards for the Indian market will essentially jack up the price and kill the whichever company does it.

Or you can always cheat...like VW did with its emissions...but if you get caught the companies will go bankrupt to compensate for people's "emotional distress". And we here will be getting 20 phone calls a day with an annoying automated voice going "have you been sold an Indian car recently...." :p:
Currently India does export Maruti Swift to europe & south east asia, ditto with hyundai grandi10 (its simply called i10 outside). But those exported versions meets all the safety standards right from meeting crash tests standard to compulsory airbag. But the very same car sold to Indian masses neither has air bag (othr than top trim level ) or neither does it pass crash tests .

Of course the cost will rise a bit say by another 30k-40k for air bags and structural modifications. But look at the fact that cars always lose value by 30 % out of show room or we pay more than 12% at starting level to 20 % of car price as taxes. As such a minor increase would over a period of time even out the costs in long run.


The problem lies with attitude of industry which has became a cabal of sorts, where every one prices the car at same level and provides nearly the same features. Consider this , all over the world automatic transmission is standard transmission but India still runs on manual , why? bcos manufacturers end up providing it at only top trim level creating a new price segment within a segment by increasing it by another 60k.

This is happening bcos car imports in India attract 200% duty,so the smart alecs who already have invested in India now oppose import of cars. If import of cars is allowed then they will have to match them feature for feature.

I see the high road accident deaths in India quoted in a lot of places...but do you actually know how many of them actually involve modern cars made by modern companies in India....and not rickshaws being run over by a truck or tuktuks crashing into motorcycles or old buses rolling from the side of a hill.(I mean how much of that high death rate would actually be reduced by seatbelts and airbags?)

Road accidents happen mostly becuz of lack of Lane discipline & every driver thinking that they are in a fucki*g fast & the furious movie

In the US market - where customer is king, the Govt. enforces ongoing CAFE fuel efficiency standards via penalties *and* safety standards via airbag requirements - at the SAME time. The more competitive a market is the thinner the margin for car-makers. Nowadays almost all new corolla size models (Nissan Sunny/Sentra, Mazda 3, Ford Escort, Chevy Cruze/Daewoo Lacetti) comes with the following safety features almost as standard in US market (because it is cheaper to fit these electronics at the outset than not).

1. Adaptive cruise control
2. Lane departure and Blind-spot occupancy warning
3. Anti-collision braking

Not to mention advanced voice activated GPS, phone commands and even finding suitable restaurants nearby.

In Brazil and India lawmakers are in the pocket of automakers hence the lax safety standards....and negligible features. These guys are minting money in India.

Indians should give preferential treatment to their own automakers (Tata. Mahindra) to compete on a more level playing field in their home turf. I'm surprised what Indian politicians gain by giving advantage to Japanese and Korean auto companies.

This is definitely not the case in China, although Chinese cars don't have a large export market, relative to India's.

Accident Death in India can be attributed several points of which seat belt and airbag is an important part...... I would say the most significant points towards accidental death would be

1) Bad roads (pot holes, narrow roads, wrong alignment or wrongly planned/constructed)
2) Attitude towards safety norms by public
3) Crazy driving habits

You can fix a seat belt and air bag...... But how many of them use seat belt while driving???? Most of them dont, and with such attitude, it makes the importance of seat belt and air bag to a "0"......
Every morons knows that one should wear a helmet while driving a two wheeler, most of the guys wear it just because they police would stop them and fine..... They dont even bother to clip their chin strap..... Funny there is new rule for fining a guy riding with out chin strap........ Let me tell you an example

This month one of my colleague died in an accident near a traffic signal.... He was wearing a helmet (10 year old one and almost reduced to a cap,)and our man did not clip the chin strap..... He had a head injury and died with in a hour of the accident...... Now on the same traffic signal i met with an accident 2 weeks back, just because there was a pothole in the middle of a smooth road, i could not see it as the car infront covered it between the wheels...... I fell and broken my shoulder bone , No head injury as i had a helmet wore properly.......

I dont have the stats but accidents in india happen more due to callousness in not following traffic laws and then due to very bad infrastructure. Most of the Indian accidents are not high speed accidents as the traffic moves at a slow pace on non-highways which is 40kmh (a measly 25mph). As such accidents involving cars will certainly cut down the percentage of deaths.

tbh, i acted the same way when i rode my 110cc bike. buttersmooth shifts n low end torque made me feel road raja, untill i started to learn driving four wheelers. i realized how irritating is it for the drivers to negotiate indian traffic, add to that the road rajas like me make life impossible for the poor fellows.
after an accident (a bus braked suddenly in front), i shunned my bike for good and decided to get myself a four wheeler. about time.

Could be. By focusing on importing cheaper made cars from India, the car factories in Mexico can focus on making better margins and optimization for exporting their products to the US/Canada through NAFTA.

I dont think its a straight re-badging...Mexico will get in serious trouble (the NAFTA clauses are pretty water tight) and it will be easy to find them out lol.

These are mostly Japanese brand produced in India circumventing the safety standard of developed country. A mexican/american produced Japanese/american car has to follow the minimum required 4 star safety ratings whereas the cars in Indian can be produced with 0 star safety ratings.

Unscrupulous dealers in Mexico are taking advantage of this flaw and making huge margin in every car they sell.

Even BD customer already found out the tricks and refuse to buy Indian made Japanese cars.

Anyways keep up the good work and try to sell Tata or Mahindra in Mexico.

Bcos most of the industries are owned by politicians or provide funding to political parties. whos going to the bell the cat. Better off ppl will buy topend vehicles. Suzuki chief certainly does not travel in the cheapest vehicle manufactured by them. So they dont care about it.

Mexico has been the single largest export market for Volkswagen India where over 80% of the export volume was shipped in 2015.

So we have exported just one car model in 5 years, 2/3rds of the entire car population on BD streets. Its not even close to the biggest one by export volume.
