MEXICO CITY / NEW DELHI:
HIGHLIGHTS
  1. Move follows a deal Mexico struck with the United States in June
  2. 310 men and one woman were in Mexico illegally
  3. Were sent on chartered flight, accompanied by immigration agents

Mexico has deported over 300 Indians to Delhi, the National Migration Institute (INM) said late on Wednesday, calling it an unprecedented transatlantic deportation.

The move follows a deal Mexico struck with the United States in June, vowing to significantly curb US-bound migration in exchange for averting US tariffs on Mexican exports.

"It is unprecedented in INM's history - in either form or the number of people - for a transatlantic air transport like the one carried out on this day," INM said in a statement.

The 310 men and one woman that INM said were in Mexico illegally were sent on a chartered flight, accompanied by federal immigration agents and Mexico's National Guard. They arrived in New Delhi on Friday.

Most of the deportees were from Punjab, an Indian official said. Police will run checks if any of them had criminal history, another official said.

INM said the deportees had been scattered in eight states around Mexico, including in southern Mexico from where many Indian migrants enter the country, hoping to transit to the US border.

The backlog of migrants in southern Mexico has grown as officials have stopped issuing permits for them to cross the country, said Caitlyn Yates, a research coordinator at IBI Consultants who has studied increasing numbers of US-bound Asian and African migrants arriving in Mexico.

"This type of deportation in Mexico is the first of its kind but likely to continue," Yates said.

Can someone tell me why Indians are trying to get into Australia, USA, UK, Israel, Europe even some poor Eastern European countries illegally? I thought India was a fantastic country, don't know why they want to try and enter these shitholes illegally?

India is indeed fantastic compared to other countries in the region but people see what the wets can offer for standard of living.

.
They are your friends. You are in a better position to answer your own question.

On a serious note, What India shows to the outside world is completely different than the reality. The GDP data is fudged and that's why despite maintaining high GDP growth, they have scored pretty bad on hunger index.

Secondly, a big chunk of the gdp growth (even if we consider it factual) is mostly reflected in the lifestyle of top 10 percent of the population. Naturally, the lower middle class tries to flee the country as economic migrant.

===================================================

The four largest Asian undocumented populations are from India, Korea, the Philippines, and China. Between 2007 and 2017, the number of Indian undocumented immigrants in the country alone grew by over 60 percent, from 325,000 people to 525,000—about 5 percent of the total undocumented immigrant population. By 2065, the Asian immigrant population is projected to become the largest immigrant population in the U.S., surpassing the Latinx immigrant population.*

*Update—June 13th, 2019: This post has been updated to clarify that there has been an increase in the total number of Indian undocumented immigrants in the U.S.

Exactly, but it gets even more skewed in the favour of very few i.e less 0.1% of their population super rich people... they control more than 50% of India's total wealth so rest of the population has in fact very limit resources and they fooled by their govt

Why try and enter these countries illegally? Australia is a great country but you don't see Aussies try and enter India illegally? After all India's economy is booming.

I went to uni with Indians and they are loud, smelly, and the way they treat women is a disgrace, but I digress why do Indians try and get into these countries? What is wrong with India? That they can't wait to leave such a fantastic country.

Question to US residents. How do illegal Indians get permit in US?

.
Good, kick all the illegals out. Shoot them on sight of needed. Those who try to enter any country illegally should be shot on sight.

.
But why is what I need to know? Why are Indians wanting to leave India? And for poor countries in Eastern Europe/Europe as well.

landed in Delhi on Friday, their American dream of a better life and jobs in the US shattered. The unprecedented transatlantic deportation followed a deal Mexico struck with the US in June to curb US-bound migration in exchange for averting US tariffs on Mexican exports.
  • Who: Most of those deported are from Punjab and Haryana who had paid lakhs to agents who had promised them a safe entry into the US through the Mexico border. In June this year, a six-year-old girl Indian had died of heat stroke in the Arizona desert on the US-Mexico border after her mother went in search of water during their illegal border crossing.

  • How: A typical illegal migrant's journey to the US was highlighted in this TOI report. In the summer of 2014, Manpreet flew from Dubai to Russia before being taken to Ecuador. From Ecuador, the group, which included 30 people from Punjab, was flown to Guatemala where they spent nights in a forest. Some of the travel to Mexico was done in vehicles, but for the last two hours, the group went on foot to avoid border patrols and enter Mexico, the last stop before crossing into the US. They were kept in safe houses before attempting to cross the border to Texas. The group that was deported this week followed a similar route. Some such migrants make it, some are caught and put in detention centres and then deported.
  • Where: As many as 8,997 Indian citizens were apprehended while trying to cross the US’ south-west border in 2018, up from just 77 in 2008, according to data released by US Border Patrol. Indian citizens were 5th among all nationalities held on that border, after Mexicans, Guatemalans, Hondurans and El Salvadorans.

LOL!! I guess they will be paying after all.

You can't get legitimate work (ie corporate) as that requires a valid Social Security number. You are forced to work "hidden" menial cash jobs under the table like farm work, janitorial services, restaurant cook, laundry worker.
