just got this news......

E%20Sreedharan.jpg

Kolkata metro, Cochin shipyard, Konkan railway, Delhi metro, Kochi metro, Lucknow metro project and now, he could very well be India’s next Union Railway Minister.

Elattuvalapli Sreedharan, popularly known as the “Metro Man” may have been contacted to nurse, build and refurbish India’s vast railway network back to health and profitability. This will not be the first time that the retired Indian Engineering Service (IES) officer would have been called back to serve the country. Successive governments at the center have sought his expertise.

Legend has it that Sreedharan built the Delhi metro without cutting a single tree. While that may be an exaggeration, it is well know that he would personally negotiate access for the tracks causing the least damage to the environment. That may be why it took him 20 years to build that line, but if political hands are to be believed, Sreedharan may have just moved to the fast track

It depends numbers bjp win you see if its too much dependant on allies they just can't put an unelected non political guy to such lucrative position will create havoc among regional parties who just don't give a damn about anything other than their political goals.

Not Happening as for me. I see non political people in serious working role, ie. MoS. Cabinet position is for the politicians.

Jumping the gun, aren't we? Let's first wait and see if Modi is India's choice to be PM.

Also, railways minister is considered a plum post, one usually given to a major ally to get their support (Lalu, Paswan, Mamta etc in the past). Unless the BJP itself manages close to a majority, and doesn't need too many allies, it is unlikely that a non political person could be given that post - Mr Sridharan, regardless of his professional accomplishments, does not bring any number of MPs with him!

C'mon the guy is 81! He has done his part, let him rest now.

As if out of the billion freaking Indians we can't find another man who can fill in his shoes!

It's not that out of a billion there is no one else as capable as him in terms of project management skills but in terms of his portfolio he is simply unrivalled. No one else has been there and done that like he has.

But I agree there is likely many many other people in India qualified for this role but given Mr Sreedharan is pretty much a household name in India it would be more likely for Modi to approach him than some unknown technocrat/project manger.
