Men to Shun Cosmetic Extremism of Women

Women, the more gentle kind of the amusingly unpredictable species, Homo sapiens, are again divided into two sub divisions, not by ambitious anthropologists, but by fashion enthusiasts on the basis of their curve

– or lack of it: ‘curvy’, is for the women of normal size and ‘size zero’ for the dangerously skinny-type; both terms are, unfortunately, a bit counter-intuitive and even carry some traces of literary aberration, as ‘curvy’ normally pictures a woman in great shape and ‘size zero’ simply implies non-existence or spontaneous evaporation, in contrast to what gives by the two mischievous definitions.

The general perception, at least up until now, was that men prefer those of size-zero to the curvy. That myth has been shattered with the publication of data from a university- research on the subject, which could drive the size-zero creatures who have already been battling enough demons – some, of their own making, of course – into a form of self-imposed hibernation to take stocks of this suicidal tendency.

Researchers at St Andrews University in Scotland have carried out a survey about the issue and the findings are already in the public domain. According to Perception, the scientific journal that carried the results, young men of university age prefer women of normal size to size-zero models. So, by keeping the statistical comfort on their side, the researchers have enough grounds to declare that the view is universal among men regardless of where they actually live in.

Since the findings struck a chord with men beyond the particular age group that has been subjected to this experiment, the possibility of discarding the results as inaccurate or irrelevant is very low, indeed.

The fact that a top-rate British university at least took the subject up for a study shows that the matter is serious stuff - for our own uninterrupted existence. Moreover, it is a slap in the face for academically-oriented women who habitually look down on attractive women by castigating the rare gift of the latter as something skin-deep, which spectacularly backfire on the former as spitting venom of envy.

The photographs of actresses, Kate Winslet and Scarlet Johanson along with that of Victoria Beckham, the ex-Spice Girl have been shown to a group of young undergraduates while measuring both reactions and blood pressure during the experiment.

Kate Winslet, who along with Leonardo Dicaprio, made men, women and children shed buckets of tears in The Titanic, while proving that even collective spitting can become romantic when done in unison on a doomed liner, is someone who enjoys the limelight while stubbornly remaining who she is without unnecessarily bothering about her weight or size. So, her nomenclature is curvy. Victoria Beckham, popularly known as Posh, however, is losing weight at an alarming rate, perhaps in proportion to the dwindling fame and fortune of her husband, David, the English footballer.

The young, according to the researchers, are not going to have sleepless nights while dreaming of Posh; the same, however, cannot be said about Kate and Scarlet, the women of normal size or the curvy type; they are significantly in demand among the young men.

The latest news didn’t come at a better time for the size-zero models. Italy and Spain already banned the promotion of this particular size in any form of media and France may follow suit soon. They were forced to act in the light of alarming outbreak of anorexia among young girls who effortlessly equated the obsession for looking thinner to self-destruction. In a separate study, the size-zero models were portrayed as something of a menace in bed too – frequently tossing and turning while cashing in on the light weight and relatively large bed space that they occupy thanks to thin size.

Moreover, Brigitte, the top-selling German woman magazine, declared that they were not going to carry photographs of skinny models anymore, despite the criticism of Karl Lagerfeld, a flamboyant fashion designer who often uses size-zero models. According to the editor of the magazine, Brigitte will only publish photographs of real women; the curvy type at the expense of those of size-zero.

The explanation of the respected editor is pretty simple: graphic designers have a Herculean task to portray these skinny models as normal human beings, especially when it comes to breast enhancing, as it involves adding a third dimension to an already-barren landscape! The magazine editors may have decided that enough was enough; digital enhancing appears to be as challenging as clinical mutilation, while dealing with this particular extension of a woman’s body, no matter how cutely it appears to be in the imagination of men.

The desire for women to have a mermaid-body is understandable; it is in the blood. They had been in this shape a long time ago, according to ancient poets.

For instance, according to a Sri Lankan poet, who happened to be a Buddhist priest named Rahula Thero, women did posses a face in the shape of a full moon and a combination of hip and waist small enough to be held by a single hand – as documented in Salalihini Sandeshaya.

The reference to hour-glass shape in various other cultures implies the shape did exist. However, there is no documentation to prove that these women had been subjected to vigorous exercise regimes to earn this shape.

It may be difficult for size-zero models to take the bad publicity on the chin, as uncontrolled weight-loss doesn’t spare even that humble projection. On the other hand they can’t ignore the findings of Scottish researches, as men form the largest group of female admirers. In this context, men have a right to expect the right size and shape despite the changing circumstances.

Therefore, it is high time size-zero models realized that men are nowhere close to use their women as dumbbells while undergoing harsh exercise regimes, even in the part of the world where bigamy is allowed or grudgingly tolerated

Without sounding ...inappropriate..
The Curvy figure and round face have usually been held in high regard in the sub-continent. compared to any other. Thin women are seen more in our modeling industry but if you ask someone such as me who is in the defined research test group.. Eyuck!!..horrible with makeup.. without makeup I thought I had seen a zombie.
