Chinese firm signs contract to build road in Afghanistan

A Chinese construction firm signed a contract on Sunday to build a key road in central Afghanistan.

Afghan Minister of Public Works Mahmuod Baligh and Vice Chairman of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) Lu Shan signed the 205-million-U.S. dollar deal during a ceremony held in Afghan Presidential Palace which was witnessed by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and other high-ranking officials.

"Launching of Dare-e-Sof and Yakawlang Road project by the Chinese firm will definitely increased Afghan economic growth and it is a significant step for connecting Afghan provinces," Baligh told the ceremony.

The road which goes through more than 37 villages will connect Dare-e-Sof district in northern Samangan province to Yakawlang district of the neighboring central Bamyan province, he said.

The 178-km-road project was the second part of a National North-South Corridor and the first phase of the corridor which connects northern Marzar-i-Sharif city to Yakawlang has already been completed, and the ministry is currently in the process of planning and surveying of the third phase of the corridor, a 550-km road, which connects Bamyan to southern Kandahar province, the minister noted.

"The project will definitely improve the connectivity in the country and the region at large," Baligh said, adding that the project will further bring facilities for local farmers and it will also help the government to exploit a coal mine which is locating along the project.

The project will take some three and half years to complete in the mountainous region.

The project comprises of building of a seven-meter-road, eight big bridges as well as constructing of 194 small bridges, according to Baligh.

Lu told the ceremony that Afghanistan is a friendly neighbor of China and that China had an important role in reconstruction process of Afghanistan.

The project will be financed by the Asian Development Bank.

Sudan inaugurates Upper Atbara and Setait Dam

Sudan launched its first Upper Atbara and Setait Dam electricity project on Thursday, Xinhua News Agency reported. The project was jointly built by China Three Gorges Corporation and China International Water and Electric Corporation.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir spoke highly of the Chinese companies’ performance during the construction of the project at the inaugural ceremony.

The project will cover 5,000 square kilometers of irrigated area, and provide 7 million people with irrigation water. In addition, it can provide 3 million people with drinking water and more than 1 million people with electricity, benefitting about one third of the country's population.

Chinese firm signs bridge construction deal with Bangladesh

DHAKA, Feb. 8 -- A State-owned Chinese company has signed a 4.49-billion taka agreement to construct a major bridge which will help faster communication between Dhaka and major river port town Narayanganj, some 30 kilometers northeast of the capital city.

Sinohydro Corporation Limited, one of the largest international companies, signed the official construction contract with the Bangladeshi government's Roads and Highways Department (RHD) on Wednesday in capital Dhaka.

The Bangladeshi government with the financial assistance from the Saudi Fund Development (SFD) has taken up the project in view of its importance in connectivity with three national highways.

"The bridge will establish an alternative route to bypass congested Dhaka city and facilitate connectivity with Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Mawa national highways," project profile mentioned.

It further said construction of the bridge will also help establish a direct road communication between two commercially important Narayanganj sub-districts (Bandar and Sadar).

Ebne Alam Hasan, chief engineer of Bangladesh's Roads and Highways Department and Lv Liushan, vice president of Sinohydro Corporation Limited, inked the deal on behalf of their respective sides at in capital Dhaka.

Bangladeshi Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, among others, was present at the deal signing ceremony.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had earlier laid the foundation of 3rd Shitalakhya Bridge through a video conference with Communications Minister Obaidul Qader at Narayanganj, which is one of the country's important business hub since British period.

Hasina had then reportedly said the project would be epoch making steps for better connectivity between Dhaka and Narayanganj as well as development of the surrounding areas and economic condition of the people. The bridge will be four-lane.

Of the total funds, the SFD will provide nearly 4 billion taka while the rest will be borne by the Bangladeshi government.

RHD and SFD have already signed a contract for the construction of the 1.2 kilometer bridge over the river Shitalakhya. (1 U.S. dollar equals 82 taka).

The world’s largest capacity semi-submersible drilling rig “Bluewhale I” built by China International Marine Containers was delivered in Yantai, east China’s Shandong province on February 13, 2017.

The Semi-Submersible rig is built on a rig design owned by Frigstad Engineering Inc. It is 117 meters long, 92.7 meters wide and 118 meters tall. The maximum depth of operation is 3658 meters and the maximum drilling depth is 15,240 meters, which makes it the worlds’ most efficient as well as the largest capacity semi-submersible drilling rig.

VIENTIANE, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's Hebei Construction and Investment Group Co., Ltd (HCIG) here on Friday signed an agreement with Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment on the development of a hydropower plant in Lao southern Sekong province.

Lao Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Khamlien Pholsena, Vice General Manager of HCIG and Chairman of the Construction and Investment International Co., Ltd Wang Jinsheng jointly signed the agreement.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Wang said his company will follow the requests put forward by Lao government, strictly fulfill its obligations and responsibilities to soon finish procedures and construction of the plant for the prosperity of Laos and improvement of local residents' lives.

The Construction and Investment International Co., Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of HCIG which is an entity of Hebei's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission.

Earlier in July 21, 2015, the Construction and Investment International Co., Ltd and Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the project of hydropower plant on Huai La-Nge River at Kaleum District in Sekong privince, some 530 km southeast of Lao capital Vientiane.

After fulfilling all the work specified in the MoU, HCIG and the Lao ministry signed the project development agreement on Friday in Lao capital Vientiane.

The hydropower plant has an installed capacity of 60 MW with total investment of 136 million U.S. dollars, according to General Manager of the Construction and Investment International Co., Ltd Yu Zhongcai.

China's largest semi-submersible ship "Xinguanghua" carrying a floating platform for oil production, storage and unloading, set sail from Shengsi County in east China's Zhejiang Province on Saturday towards North Sea Oil Field in the UK.

The platform, also known as "Hope No.6" is the first of its kind built by China. It's cylindrical in shape and can turn in all directions along with wind and waves to avoid damage from stormy waves.

With the maximum processing capacity of 44,000 barrels of crude oil a day, the platform can deal with mud and impurities of the crude oil under the sea and ship the purified oil by shuttle tankers.

As an offshore processing plant for oil and gas, it took COSCO Shipyard four years to build. It weighs 31,000 tons, measures 56 meters tall, equivalent of 18 floors.

The platform will reach North Sea Oil Field in June, where it will be put into service for two decades."
